    Cool New Yamahas!

The Yamaha unveiling of the 2006 bikes was in Central Park today. (It's also going on tomorrow for anyone interested.) Yamaha showed a 25 minute film featuring the new bikes. After the film, you could check out the bikes up close. I was looking forward to checking out the R6, but was disappointed. I fell in love with the R1 however. Eddie Lawson and Jason DiSalvo were on hand to sign autographs.

Seriously sexy machines right there. If I wasn't so afraid I'd dump it the day I bought it, and I had the money, I'd be all over a '06 yammie.

Don't care much for the hard lines and "predator mouth" style front end on the R6 but as usual, the R1 is the sharpest looking bike out there!

    New Yamahas!

The R6 looks like a praying mantis from the front. But it still redlines at 17k, so you cant much argue with that. What are the 2006 600cc bikes putting out now? 130-140bhp? Damn.

The R1 is fucking gorgeous, and you needed to take more pics of the FZ for crying out loud, show some love, you own one afterall!

The R6 is the first drive-by-wire bike ever produced also. There are a ton of cool functional design features on the bike but the styling and the extra high seat are a turn off for me.

Oh please...like you people really wanted to look at that bike!

I was really drooling over the R1...that is one hot bike. Can you say trade-in or second bike perhaps?

What exactly is this "drive by wire"?

They use a sensor that sends a throttle position to the ECU. When you twist the grip you change the position of the sensor. The ecu then actuates the throttle bodies with a servo. There is no direct connection from the grip to the throttle body. Cars have been using it for some time now. This is the first bike to get it.

my car has drive-by-wire and it sucks from a tuning standpoint.. also throttle response isn't as crisp.
