    tire storage

for new/extra tires, is there an advantage of having them mounted on extra wheels if they're just going to be sitting around?

I'm only going to use them for the 1 track day I'm doing this year (in August) and when my current tires (w' good tread) run out

No advantage to having them mounted. Store then in a cool, dry place (many put them in trash bags), and make sure they are not near anything that emits ozone (like a heater / furnace, etc.).
