The woman is going to be taking her intro riding course next week and until today I had nothing suitable for her to ride. I looked around at used EX250s and EX500s and didn't like what I saw. I also realized that I would end up riding the bike a lot which made me set my sights on something a little bigger but still manageable for a noob. After only a week of searching I came home with this:
It's an '01 SV650-S and I picked it up for $2600. The engine runs strong (as strong as a 650 can) and is in overall good shape. The forks will need to be resprung and have the fluid changed as they are pretty much spent but I doubt my lady would ever notice. If I make it into a track bike, which is a very likely possibility, I will probably rework the rear suspension as well. The D&D slip-on makes the 12R with stock exhaust sound like a pussy even though it is putting down around 100 more ponies then the SV.
I'm amazed I contaminated my garage with a Suzuki!

Nice machine, but I think your supposed to put the fire starter on the kickstand side.
I like the 12 too![]()
Cool beans!
First thing I would change is the D&D pipe. Unless ou think she will have a tipsy or two wait until she gets that out of the way. Then get her a new pipe. D&D sucks and are to freakin loud!

The front is a nearly spent D207. The rear is a 1 month old D208. Never did care for the 208 so I'll likely change both to a set of powers.
The bike actually has 24K on it. The people I bought it from took very good care of it. The only real blemish on the bike are dents in both wheels from when the previous owner hit a pothole with it. I took the bike to a local shop and had them spin balance the wheels with the existing wheel weights and the balance was spot on. The beads are also perfect so I'm not too concerned about it.
Also just found out that 50/100 coverage with comp and collision will only set me back $247/year. Not too bad if you ask me.

Awesome find!!! Remove the D&D!!!!!!
I'm diggin' the exhaust note! It makes my 12R sound like a pansy. I will most likely keep it on unless I can find a very cheap stock muffler.Originally posted by BadBoyBilly
