    Re: Triumph Adventure

Jesus, Keith, you could at least let me post my own first pic of my own new bike! :-P

So yeah, picked up my XC ABS after work today. Here's an inline version of the one and only pic so far:

Oh my god, what an awesome bike! It's so much better than the Wee-Strom in so many ways I don't even know where to start.

Okay, I'll start with around town. Really easy, linear power delivery; ultra-smooth transmission; well-balanced at slow speeds; feels a good deal lighter than the Strom even though it's almost exactly the same weight. It's frustrating getting stuck in traffic though, because this bike wants to GO!

Hopped on the highway for a short stretch, and there was just no comparison. The Strom always feels a little bit labored. The Triumph feels utterly effortless. Rolled on the throttle a bit at one point, looked down at the speedometer, and I was doing 95. Without even trying. Quickly rolled back off the throttle.

I do get more airflow than I do on the Strom because the windscreen is smaller, but it's smooth airflow; no buffeting at all (I'm 6'4", FWIW). For cold weather I'll probably get the taller windscreen, as I felt my shoulders getting cold even with my electric vest on (of course, it was also only about 35 degrees out). On the other hand, in hot weather that extra airflow will be most welcome.

Tonight I need to read the manual and figure out what all the functions on the instrument panel are. I already figured out how to switch between the two trip odometers and the miles traveled/average speed/average mpg/current mpg display. No idea what kind of other shit this thing is capable of telling me. I half expect it to be able to cook me breakfast.

Oh, also, the headlights are great. On par with the Strom's.

Can't wait to take it for a long ride tomorrow!

Actually, I find it distracting. I'm constantly looking at it and rolling off the throttle to try to make my mpg go up!

    Pic from today's ride:

    What a fantastic motorcycle!

It's fascinating to ride. You can feel the Speed Triple DNA -- it manages to feel like a sportbike and a dirtbike at the same time. So much fun!

Congrats mister! It's nice to see someone actually get what they hoped for from a new ride. They are nice looking bikes. I'm curious to see what the maintenance schedule is for it.

Typical Triumph. Oil/filter changes (with synthetic) every 6k miles, valve checks every 12k. Plus the usual stuff they throw into factory-recommended maintenance, ie, plug in the scan tool and check for error codes, check chassis bolts for torque, etc.

Sweet bike! I've been eyeing this ride for a little while now. DucDave said on FB if I bought another bike there would have to be in "intervention"

    Congrats!

    Re: Triumph Adventure

After living with it for a week... holy shit, I love this bike! It's so much fun to ride that I actually have a little trouble sleeping the night before a planned ride. I keep waking up early in the morning thinking, "Is it time to get up and ride yet???"

And it's not even fully broken in yet! Just wait till I can actually rev it to 10k rpm.

I go with a method that's sort of in between the Motoman and factory methods. I don't stick strictly to the factory limits, but I also don't redline it right away. Especially on mineral break-in oil. I pretty much ride it like I normally would, with an emphasis on hard acceleration up to progressively higher revs, and lots of engine braking.

Let's not turn this into a break-in thread though.

I'm looking forward to being able to push it a little more without worrying that there's sand and dust and gravel and crap in the corners...

Not sure, I haven't ridden a 955i Tiger, and I forget what they're supposed to make. The T800 makes 95hp and just under 60 lb-ft of torque; that's probably less than the 955i, but not by a whole lot, and the bike weighs a fair amount less.

while i haven't been on a ta yet it's going to be down quite a bit on power compared to a tiger.

i'll more than likely take one for a ride next month.

for me it's to heavy, doesn't have enough suspension, not enough fuel and is under powered.

although it makes an impressive amount of electrical power
