Maybe you should check out an SV650. I've seen one that consistently beat an RC-51 up at New England Dragway
With all the hype the bike got I guess I was expecting more out of it. Ill agree its a faster and more powerful bike then my rc51. Hell even the newer 600s have passed the rc in power now. But for a bike that has been so hyped up with its power and speed I was a bit disappointed with it. I dont even want to go into the crappy job Kawasaki did with the fit and finish of the bike. I dont care for the styling but the entire tail section is very flimsy and very bulky if you have to remove it.

    Re: ZX-14 being underwhelming.

Any bike with any amount of HP can be underwhelming if the rider is not a power-monger.

If the only reason you like your current bike is it's very high HP output of course you're going to love the ZX-14.

For everyone else who doesn't think peak HP is the #1 most important thing other aspects are going to be more important...

And that is why the vast majority of people don't prefer the highest HP I-4 motorcycles. Consider all bikes... people buying the 1000cc I-4 superbikes, busa, ZX-14, etc.. are a pretty small percentage of the market. V-twins are by far the most popular when you look at all bikes.

Here's a little something to make you save those pennies a bit faster:

New tires and chain, fluids and filters changed, all cleaned up and ready to roll

this thread is funny in the fact that most feel that what ever they ride is the best regardless of facts.

i find my inline is ALOT of fun but i'd love a mille and a speed triple.

I noticed that too. I have had both. I truly feel that I did move forward into the V-Twin sportbike, as opposed to another in-line sportbike. Is my particular V-Twin sportbike the best? Nope. Its the best I could afford for a V-Twin sportbike. The Pasta V -Twins are my first choice, but this time around it had to be rice V-Twin.

While I love my Ducati, it does feel a bit underpowered whenever I go from that to my FZR1000. Despite the fact that the FZR is 10 years older than the Duc. Of course, I am giving 250cc of displacement going from one to another. 748cc V-twin vs. 1002cc I-4.
However, the chassis of the Ducati is the best I have ever experienced. I'm sure that I might change my tune if I had the 998cc V-twin.
I will say that the V-twin does sound really cool !!!!!!!!!
Bottom line is, these high performance machines are so good that us mortals could never push them to their limits and whether you prefer a V-twin, I-4, 3 cylinder or parrallel twin, it's all good.

the speed limit up here is 55 dufus so i guess 25 over would be correct. and actually the section of highway right outside my door is 50mph

oh.. and i said 80+... it does about 85 at the rev limiter

    V-Twins Vs, Inline 4's

So I ride a 2006 cbr1000 and my brother bought an '06 rc51 and in a conversation with him I asked what was the difference. Now I have always ridden dirtbike in the past. He said a I-4 is like a 2 stroke and a v-twin is like a 4 stroke. After I rode his RC, I agreed with his analogy. Do you 2 stroke riders agree with the analogy??

vtwin instant torq at low rpm but HP gets you to max torq even quicker if you're not afraid of higher rpm. the thrill of turbo engine. i can ride zx10 in 1st gear but who needs max torq all the time? take the new R6 for instant. nothing happen in the middle then all of a sudden bam! like a bullet.

jap I4 is like a turbo'd 4cyl car, not much at lower rpm's but as soon as the turbo spools what out.

L or V twins have low end grunt like some v8's, tq down low and not a whole lot up top.

either way we're all on 2 wheels so IMO who cares what it is?

Cylinders and configuration is nothing, it's all about bore x stroke. Bore = top end power, stroke = low end torque. It's just that engines with fewer cylinders end up with larger strokes to keep the piston velocity down. The whole twin vs four thing is a straw man, more cylinders is more better.

you have diarrea of the mouth too

longer stroke = higher piston velocity

torque and power curves are more determined by valve lift & duration

inline 4s can be tuned for low end power or peak power same as twins

TLS is tuned for more low end, TLR is tuned for more peak, both same basic engine different cams
919 is tuned for low end, cbr900rr is tuned for peak, again same basic engine, different cams
