one that hooks up to the bottom of front forks, or one that lifts from under the steering head?
Which is easier and why?

I think Pit bull or wood craft make steering head stands.
one that lifts from the fork tubes is easier & cheaper
one that lifts from the steering head is more versatile, and allows you to do a wider range of work on the bike.
The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
i got one that lifts from the fork tubes. then we recently rebuilt my roomates forks... it didn't help so we came up with some very scientific jacking means by several car jacks.
a headstock stand would have made the project a lot easier.
but we did make do and the fork stand was significantly cheaper.

I was looking at them a little while ago.
I think I'm going to get the Pitbull convertible stand when I do get one. It converts back and forth between the two types. It looks really nice.

Woodcraft has some pretty sweet stands.

The ones that lift from the bottom of the forks are OK but are only useful for brakework and pulling the front wheel. They are usually cheaper than the other kind because, obviously, there's less to them.
The ones tht lift from the headstock, I think are much nicer. Also you can pull your forks, etc, and they are much more stable.
I use the one person headstock stand from www.woodcraft-cfm.com and love it.
The pitbulls are very nice, also, and worth the money.

I know i'm slow, you don't have to rub it in.
Why, Yes! I do think you're a Wanker!
Thanks bro. I'm going with the head stand.Originally posted by lee955i
