So I guess it was my turn...
After hours of hard twisties on the way home, someone pulls out from an perpendicular street (stop sign ignored), sees me once in the middle of the road, stops in front of me.
I think I was going 50-55 (speed limit was 40mph). I had convinced myself that I could go around him from behind. A little brake, downshift, a little rear brake. I was doing fine heading the right way. Then the unthinkable happened.
He gets rear ended! I panic, grab a lot more brake and try to lean the other way.
Why is it always 2sec later that you realize you are wrong? I saw the tach hit the pav. the speedo was reading 35.
My elbow hit softly (hein gericke winter jacket), then my knee very very hard ( double jeans w/reinforcement on bottom pair; home made).
After that it goes a lot faster, you try to stop, and look at the bike colide with the cars.
End result:
Bike got hurt, tank is dented (both side Huh, leaking on left), mounting tabs are bent, front fork and rim are scraped, not obviously bent tho. Tach, speedo, bars, shifter are gone. Rad. is pushed to the right a bit, but no leak/no bend.
my custom dual setup shattered on impact.
no start...it turns over at least.
My ankle is the size of a football (nfl), and hurts too much for any weight.
My knee is the size of a tennis ball, no more skin on cap.
My elbow is bruized.
all in all, I am fine!
I can't wait to get back out there, and it happened just 2 hours ago...

Take care of those injuries, doesn't sound like "fine" to me!
Heal up, talk about a crazy accident.
Glad you are OK!
Too bad you have a curvy instead of a pointy one.
(first gen vs second gen)
Let me know if you need help tracking down parts.
I pretty good with the second gen stuff but willing to look parts
to get you going again if you decide not to junk.
Sorry to hear, glad you're ok.
If the bikes totaled by it back, and I hope you had a doc check you out.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
doc check out ok, nothing broken...
No insurance involved, I was speeding, he pulled out, neither of us can afford to delcare it.
we settled it "off-line"
Could I borrow a rear stand from someone for a little while to check every thing and repair?

sorry man!
"fuckit!"
Speeding or not he ran a stop sign, and then got rear-ended closing your escape route. do you think you would have avoided the whole thing has you bee going 10 MP/H slower? doubt it because you would most likely have chosen the same escape route and then done the same exact thing.Originally posted by Qfactor

I agree with reiobard. Since he stopped in the road, gut reaction would have you try to go behind him, and not in front. I wouldn't have taken the risk of him moving forward if you were trying to go around the front of him. Damn that sucks.
Damn, man. Speeding or not, I think that one was pretty much unavoidable. Glad to hear you'll be ok, though. Stay off that ankle and take care of your knee. Those injuries can come back and haunt you later if not healed right. Take care.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
Where was this BTW - In Cambridge or further out?
This is a good reminder for all of us to control early-season enthusiasm and get in some emergency braking practice, as well as give your brakes a good check-over to make sure they are tip-top.
yes, glad you are ok. i would check with someone more knowledgeable about these things. you might have recourse on him, but it sounds like you were going too fast for the roadway. you could be cited for that, but in the end, the cage would (probably) be found at fault. did you have the right of way?
he ran the stop sign...that's a fact.
Who there had a calibrated radar and knows exactly how fast you were going? Noone, therefor no proof of you doing anything wrong. Don't take it up the ass. Insurance. The bike could be tweaked and you'll never know.

the frame is straight and the forks are too.
I guess damage is minor afterall.

Did you admit to speeding to anyone at the scene?

Man, sorry to hear about your accident.
If you can settle off line and your medical is covered, good for you. If the medical insurance company knows it was a motor vehicle accident, they will insist that you claim it as they won't pay out.

Sorry to hear of this. Get yourself healed up and back on a bike soon!

Sorry to hear about the get off - luckily (and most importantly) no one was hurt...
If your bike is fuel injected - the no start may be because of a tip over sensor... Hope this helps.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
I agree! It's HIS fault. You should have not(if you did) admit to speeding. Besides, you said you were going 35 at point of impact, the speed limit was 40.Originally posted by hessogood

Question: do you think if you tried to stop from the first notice of him, you could have? Just wondering.
Oh yea, and heal up quick!
