I usually don't like messing with my stuff, in case I screw it up, but I figured what the hell. I did a cople of what turned out to be really simple mods to my CBR.

First one, cutting down that airbrake of a rear fender. The before:

And the after (with new short stalk directionals):

Second one, installing frame sliders. Thanks to several people who suggested using Play-Doh to mark the place to drill. And thanks to stevecbr900rr for suggesting I tape the front side when I used the hole saw. Here are a couple pics (I still have the lowers off to do an oil change in the spring):

I'm still waiting on a new set of Targa mirrors and GP pegs. I can't wait until this is all done.

If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike

The best part about the fender mod was that it was free. The CW fender eliminator requires you to cut, so I decided it was dumb to pay the $125 for a small piece of metal when a dremel did the job just as well.

^^ I've seen alot of ppl do that, or even fashion a bracket outta sheet metal. I really like the rear turn signals...how much did those run you?

They're LP short stalk V signals. I got them from JP Cycles:

    Short Stalk V Dual Filament

I also used them on the front. I used the dual filament for both the front and back, even though the rears only need single filament. Easier to get bulbs if they both take the same ones. Heres a pic:

Nice job! I didn't pay for mine also. Just got some brackets from home depot and some drilling and bending and I had a FE kit Cost less than $5. That really cleaned up the tail of your bike, looks MUCH better!

Looks great... the 900RR is still one of my favorite bikes of all time.

Today I put the Duc up on stands and changed the oil for the winter. She's done for the year... now time to get to work on it.

    Thanks all for the compliments.

In the spring, I'm hoping to get the mechanical stuff done:

fork oil (and seals, if needed)
    valve clearances
    steel braided brake lines

As far as additional looks go, I might be looking for a rear hugger.

Thanks! It's a 1997. Picked up from a guy on the north shore this past June with 14K on the clock. He was the 2nd owned and babied it. He bought it from his best friend. Always garaged, as it is now. He used to use it strictly as a commuter bike. Used to break it down in the winter and clean it up completely, even the insides of the fairing pieces.

The only mods he made to it were the Two Brothers full exhaust, the K&N stage 1 kit, and the Corbin rider saddle. I'm doing all the cosmetic mods.
