I’ve got a 2007 Shoei Qwest and a 2014 Shoei Neotec that I’m no longer using.
Has anyone sold used helmets > 5 years old?
imho, helmets are like underwear, would you buy someone's used underwear

There is someone on here that collects old helmets to make some sort of epic wall. I donated a few many years ago. I'm sure there is an old thread with the info somewhere.
I would have no problem accepting cash from some Craigslist/Marketplace squid that wanted to trade $50-100 for my old (uncrashed) helmet. If I’m not going to use it, and they’re looking and willing to buy a cheap used helmet, why not sell them mine.
Not being a troll, isn’t there some rule of thumb that they’re structurally compromised after five years? I have one I still wear that’s tenish years old, so I don’t go by that, but thought I did hear something about five years.
Your park avenue leads to..
The 5 year thing is more of a suggestion than a requirement.
In racing it's usually written in the rulebook that a helmet not exceed 5yrs of age from the DoM.
I recently read this article and it helps explain where the 3, 5 and 7 year replacement recommendation came from.
From the way it reads, it sounds to me like it's a carryover from old technology that no one has gone back to revise or revaluate.
EDIT: And I believe it was tsorfas that was collecting helmets at one point in time

I have 3 or 4 old used helmets that are getting in the way now. I'm just going to throw them in the trash, unless there's a better way to recycle them or something?
Give good helmets away, don't trash them. Helmets don't expire unless they're abused. They do get safer every year. That is why they say to discard them after time.
I have a friend who belongs to a snowmobile club up in NH who took mine. I can ask if they need more?
Not collecting any more but thanks for remembering me.
Much appreciated.
Donate to local FD for practice cutting off/removing helmets from downed riders. Donate to local LARP/MMA clubs for non-moto head protection.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Give them away to kids who would otherwise ride around without helmets, or to friends who are trying to decide whether to take the RiderCourse, etc.
