I just got back from 7 days in Florida. I had considered renting a bike while I was down there (they rent Harleys fairly reasonably - not really a bike, but close), but the roads are very, very boring. All flat and straight.
We have sweet roads here in the northeast, even if we can only ridem them 2/3 of the year.![]()
I am heading down to Daytona this Sunday for a few days in the sun (and no snow). Looks like I'll either be on a Harley, or Buell. Beats sitting in the cold wanting to ride though....

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
Ah... I hear you just need to learn to ride them correctly to see the curves.
Once you get the bike up to like 150 or so and the tunes are blasting on your ipod, the road starts to seem curvy.![]()
Ben,
Have you ridden in and or around Dayton Beach Florida?
Really, even at 150 the roads down there are too damn straight and flat. My first year at Bike Week in '98 I was wondering why every sportbike down there was stretched and lowered. I was constantly saying to myself how the heck do they take those things on the twisties. 7 trips to the Daytona area later I now know the answer......................there are no twisties.
My friends and I searched near and far to find a good twistie down there and the closest we came to finding one was the road that goes around the airport behind the speedway. Short straightaways connected by 90 degree curves. Not real exciting but better than going straight and sitting at stop lights on International Speedway Blvd.

There are some in the Ocala national forest, about 60 miles west north/west of DaytonaI also found some around a lake in Lakeland but there were a lot of houses.
I'm gonna miss going to Daytona this year![]()

Don't even get me started on Florida roads. I have been living in FL for the past 6-7yrs. [Hopefully we will be moving next September back up to NE] and it just plain out sucks here for riding. If your into the whole "Showing off your bike" / "Poser" scene than FL is for you!
Im just trying to spread the word!![]()
Boston --> San Diego
hey, i grew up riding in the fort lauderdale, miami area and there are twisties... you just have to get creative. municiple airport perimiter roads, housing development construction sites make excellent impromtu race tracks... they always pave the roads before they start building the houses. clover leafs (no decreasing radius onramps in FL). i had my spots here and there.
south west arizona was worse...land of the 120mph sweeper and nothing more.
