Did anybody else notice that the guy in the first video seemed to have a lot more bike than anyone else in the race?![]()
How do these guys get their bikes?
Do you have to dig up an old 125 off the market or can you actually go to a Honda dealer and order one? (I know you can just go get an Aprilia but Honda sure hides theirs)
Yup. He made all his passes on the straight!Originally posted by highsider

There are lots of 125cc and 250cc two stroke bikes around.
www.risingsuncycles.com is one place
Wow...those are expensive.Originally posted by 35racer

It looks like they come with lots of spare parts too though.
Damn they must be fun though.. they list the Honda RS250 as 92ps and ~220lbs "semi-dry".![]()
You can't get the hondas through a dealer. There are a few importers. I think the numbers of new bikes (125 anyway) coming to the US is very small. Like single digits.
Most are shipped here after a season or two in japan or europe. They are much cheaper used. They are NOTHING like what you get in a street bike. 10k includes a season or two of spares. That's a relative bargain.
They are not really cheap to run though. That's not their mission. Purpose built to race AND to wrench, handle like a dream (best in the world), power to weight is very good, reliability is high if you treat them right.
The guy in the vid has a fast bike. at VIR it makes all the difference. At Loudon he'd be back of the pack!
Why would he suck at Loudon? Because of something in his riding technique that you can deduce from the video? Or because tuning his bike to be that fast would make it hard to put the power down at Loudon?
he was only passing the other 125's in the straights, not the corners and he wasn't even catching up to the LITERBIKES in the corners, just in the braking zones it seemed.Originally posted by benVFR

only reason why i posted the vids were for entertainment and track-layout familiarity, not cuz the guy's an awesome rider.... i spotted a couple other vids of him on the track, one where he even took out a GSXR going into the carousel on the north course... i'll have to post that one for you guys to see later![]()

I didn't say he would suck! Just implied that his cornerspeed was not outstanding in the vid.
I know from racing fast bikes at the Loudon USGPRU National that it won't give you the kind of advantage that guy is enjoying at VIR. He's gaining like 15 bike lengths on the straight. That is tough to make up for in the corners. At Loudon a fast 125 can only gain a 3-4 bike length advantage on the straight, which can be easily made up in the bends and braking zones.
Sure.. sounds good. I wasn't really implying I could tell much from watching that video.
