    Bike locks

Just trying to get a feel for what everyone (us suckers without a garage) uses for a bike lock. Any feedback would be great.

    Re: Bike locks

I thought about it but the amount of times I've driven off with out the petcock on I figured it would be a matter of time before I forgot to take it off and flipped my bike.

    Re: Bike locks

Alot of people get something like a phone cord that is attached to the lock and then they loop the other end over one of the handle bars so they don't forget it.

    Re: Bike locks

I use a XENA disc lock with alarm. Not that it will make someone go deaf, but you will never forget and drive away with it on.
Or you can get a simple disk lock with the cord to put on your throttle to remind you not to drive off with the lock attached.

For locking up at home if you can anchor something into the ground get one of these Kryptonite stronghold anchors and a big cable.

Of course if a professional wants your bike they will get it. The best thing is to keep a low profile around your house or if in public try to park where there are allot of people.

    Re: Bike locks

Yea my first one I didn't have the reminder cord and I didn't flip the bike because it will hit before you go anywhere, but the abrupt stop caused me to lose balance and I was about an inch away from putting the bike on its side. This was my old CBR within the first hour of owning it lol. Never made that mistake again.

+1 to the Xena lock - solid unit and the alarm is a nice plus.
Barely use it though, few steal bmw it seems

A baby moniter is a very cheap alarm system. Just put under your bike cover.

+2 on the Xena. It keeps the wheel from spinning, so they at least have to work to get the bike, and it makes noise when the bike is bothered, so if you forget it it'll remind you before you ride off.

I was in doubt, and therefore went with some of Germany's best (and most expensive):

I believe someone else mentioned (a while ago) that one of the best theft deterrents is simply putting a cover over the bike. Out of sight, out of mind. Just in case you don't use a cover now.

Yeah, I got the equivalent of the ABUS Super Magnum set from those guys a while back and use it with a Kryptonite anchor for my driveway. It is a seriously hardcore chain and padlock.

One nice thing was that I bought an ABUS disc lock from them at the same time, and as both the disc lock and the padlock had the same number of tumblers, they were able to set the tumblers in the padlock so both were keyed the same.

I use an OnGuard chain and a Scorpio two way alarm.

I just figure you can never make it hard enough for them. You figure in terms of probability, they will most often go for the easy bike, but if they really want yours they will try to take it.
