Good. Lets hope that the Judge takes Adam's wife's thoughts into account, and has the old bag talk to other elderly drivers.
yea and mandatory re-testing for you license
With luck a change for the better of society will come from the loss of Adam.
Personally I believe all people should be tested on a regular basis for the privilige to drive a car.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
And they should put people through real driver's training to get a license, instead of that useless driving test a 6 year old with Downs Syndrome could pass.Originally posted by SSearchVT

hear, hear. testing every 10 years until 50 and every 5 years over 50 years old.
and, yup, a better initial test to begin with !!! what kind of bullshit test is that anyway? even to get an M designation is stupid easy.
mental illness can strike people at almost any time during their life. Some of it can be incompacitating. Hencer, everyone should be retested on a regular basis, regardless of age or previous health conditions.

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
+1 to all above. Lets not hope the judge is elderly too. Might not give the justice deserved to the bell family.

With the majority of the population heading towards the twilight years, I don't see mandatory testing happening anytime soon.
I think that mandatory re-certification, or better yet "continuing education" would be an excellent idea.
After 60 there should be mandatory testing, and there should be compulsory reporting by MD's to the registry for any patient they see who they feel could be remotely prone to cognative or motor skill impairment such that they could pose a risk.
String up a few doctors and the laws would come along fairly quickly.

Couldn't agree more. I'll be first in line to take my driving test for better or worse.
Unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon either... especially for the elderly. They may not drive so well, but they vote really well.
My biggest fear on the road is elderly drivers.. I agree there should be a YEARLY driving test for anyone over the age of 70.
In addition to an eye test and a road test, there should be a hand-eye coordination test. The tester should throw a tennis ball at the head of the testee (haha) and if no attempt is made to move or catch the ball there license should be permanently revoked.
South Park summed up this issue perfectly. While the elderly will fight for the priveledge to drive to keep their dignity, it puts everyone elses life in danger.
The unfortunate truth is that the elderly vote and most 20 somethings (myself included) dont.
