My girlfriend has never ridden a motorcycle and wants to learn. The only bike I have is my CBR600, which I think is way too much to learn on. Is the basic rider course appropriate? Also, where and when is one scheduled in Vermont?
Thanks in advance.

Well, I Googled my way to an answer for you. It appears that VT has 3 courses (basic, which is what she would need; intermediate, and experienced).
The number to call for class dates and info is:
1-800-529-2535
The cost is only $125 for the BRC, which is pretty cheap. It says that everything is provided, so you don't need to put her on the CBR to attend the class.

That's the cool thing about the MSF BRC, they provide the bike! Usually a bunch of 250's randing from an enduro to a cruiser-style. It's lots and lots of fun and I highly recommend it. I did mine after already having ridden a bit and it was still a blast.

werd, all ya need is a permit & proper clothing... jeans, close toed shoes, raingear if needed (i needed it one day) etc etc etc. They give you helmet & bike. I think they had Suzuki GZ250's and Honda Nighthawk 250's at my school in MA
hit up the MSF webpage for more info

Check and see if you need your own helmet - I had to take my helmet to the course I did while living in NY State. MA provides helmets, dunno about VT.

I'm pretty sure the helmet is included.

In VT, its a very good idea to take the MSF and get the license exemption because as far as I remember, the road test is a bitch. Lots of tight slow 1mph turns in a sandy, cracked pavement, parking lot. Also, depending which examiner is having a good or bad day will determine who passes or not.
The test is really a great determining factor as who will be a good driver and who will not...no seriously...no sarcasm in what I'm saying...i swear...![]()
I took the riding test back in 1985. I remember people chuckling when I unloaded my 100 cc enduro bike out of the pickup truck, and put on my full faced MX helmet with numbers on the side. They were on Intercepters, A gold wing, and a few harleys. The guy giving the test was the only one with a straight face.
I had been racing MX since I was 6, and was the first to go on the course, which on that bike was a breeze. My truck was blocked in so I had to wait until everyone was done. After the second guy dropped his bike they all wanted to borrow mine... :-)
Thanks for the responses guys, The girlfriend is excited about the course and is saving up the money...

Can't say enough about that class. It was so much fun and I learned so much, pluse you get your liscence in the end.
97 GSXR 600 - Mah first real bike!
not too bad - I took the test a month after I got my permit with only that long on a bike and I passed with no points taken off...Originally posted by VTSV
