they have different color powder coat, so you could go with a yellow(i think it is close to a gold color) or the blue and with the brushed can it would look like brushed colored metal

I don't think so, is your can brushed alum, or smooth.... If brushed I would clean it extremly well, and probaly go round the can with the brushes with a 3m pad.... If it's smooth then a light wet sanding would be best... I tried it on some plastic knobs, and the only thing that sucked was because they were black I had to use a sliver base coatkinda got klumpy....
