its a crazy world you never know
I can't wait to hear where this story goes when the guy never calls.
2023 KTM 890 Adventure R
If the guy is a dick he might be able to pursue a claim of theft for taking the key, but it would be a stretch and the guy would have to be a really big jerk to even go down that road. Stranger things have happened though.
Since you recognize the bike and you roughly know his habits I would say it was probably the best course of action. Let us know how it turns out.

Your an ass if you did nothing, your also an ass if you take the key and leave a note.
In a lose lose situation like this, you did the right thing. There's not enough people out there looking out for one other.

Oh NESR, you never cease to amaze me with your dickishness.
Seriously guys? He's going to get in trouble? We should all be so lucky as to have someone look out for us if we forget our key in our bike (I do it A LOT).

Thank you for the votes of confidence! I really, really don't like having some perfect stranger's keys in my pocket....![]()

I agree here...
He could have ran in quick and just left the keys in it. Now he has to go through this whole thing of calling you and getting the key back. Caused him kind of a pain in the ass....
I leave my key in my bike all the time if Im just running into a store...Id be pissed to find a note with my key gone.

i would never leave my keys on my bike unless im in my own driveway no way in public
Also NESR, your problem with reading comprehension never fails to amaze me
THE BIKE WAS IN A COMMUTER PARKING AREA.
THE OP HAS SEEN THE BIKE PARKED THERE NUMEROUS TIMES.
THE PARKING PLACE IS ENOUGH OUT OF THE WAY THAT THE PERSON WASN'T JUST RUNNING INTO THE STORE.
Bunch of morons.

What I would do in your case is also contact the state police and provide them with your name, cell number and the plate number of the bike. You never know they might have the guys employer on file and be able to get you in touch with the person sooner than EOD today.
I will also stand ground and say you did the right thing. Sure if it was my bike and some stranger took my key and left a note I would be grateful but not everyone would be I guess. I know I'd rather have a missing key until 5pm than a missing bike forever, I just went through a stolen bike and it is not fun. Breaks your heart more than it pisses ya off![]()
