So I am curious if anyone has any opinions or experiences with this oil filter?

Bling? Seriously? Randy, it's an OIL FILTER that sits behind the fairing!!!
I hear you on the payback, but I see it this way...
I change the oil every 3K.
I spent $95 on the Scotts.
At 30k it will have cost me $9.50 per change as opposed to your $7.83 per change (do you really change your filter every 11K?). $1.67 doesn't buy you a medium coffee these days.
Time to clean? 3 minutes. Tops. Unscrew it, inspect it, toss it in the parts cleaner while the residual oil drains out of the motor, hit it with the air chuck and a clean rag and reinstall. I even reduce landfill (not that I give a shit to be completely honest).
So, at 30K I'm behind by a whopping $1.67 and about 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Think of all the foil hats I could have made!!!joke, joke
To me it's worth it to be able to see what may or may not be inside that filter.
Tried to find, cant, will try again. Why havent you fabbed up your own yet, I thought you were Tricky, Mike!
Motorcycle Oil Filters & Air Filters
Halfway down, I think thats what I read earlier, but I cant find the original article I read
I like to use the paper filters, which as has been mentioned are better at removing smaller particles. However I also like to cut open the paper filters on race motors to see what it has caught (with a can opener so you don't add anything else). So there is something to be said about seeing what is being filtered out.
Another thing to consider is that a by-pass in the filter can let allot of oil pass through without getting any filtration. So choose your filter per the application.
Currently I am testing some of the new AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters. I'll let you know what I think of them this winter when I take them apart.

Likely to be true... as is the fact that the difference between 25 and 35 microns (depending on who you chose to believe) isn't likely to play a role either, regardless of how long I own the bike... especially if it gets fresh oil on a regular basis. Either way, as I said before, my main motivation is ease of inspection.
I mean this is good for race teams, who change their oil between races or sometimes between heats.
For $170, it is a bit too rich for a casual or fair weather rider.
I have 3 rules when it comes to anything mechanical or relating to bikes...
