Hey all,
First post after a bit of lurking. Picked up my 02 YZF600R a month ago, finally got it reg'd/insured last week, and got my permit Monday.
Put about 40 miles on it Monday and while checking tire pressures last night I noticed a plug in the rear tire. No big deal, until I noticed about 6" away there was a rusty industrial staple in the tire as well. Doesn't look/sound to be leaking at all, but regardless, I'm set with this tire. I want to replace it.
I've heard good things about the Dunlop 220 and the B'stone BT020. I don't want a super sport tire since I will be commuting from Goffstown-Hampton (90 mile round trip) once I'm comfortable enough on the highway. Tire longevity is more of a factor for me.
I know I can get them cheaper online, but local places seem eager to rape you (rjs in Nashua said $100 per tire if I bring the bike in, just for mounting).
I know the guy who runs Nault's Powerhouse in Manch, but I haven't seen him at the gym lately.
Where do you all go?
welcome..and this was psoted awhile ago..but I dunno if this guy is still doing it...

Awesome, thanks for the link. I just called him and he's still doing it. So I'll be looking around for a 160-60-17 online. Thanks!
what have you heard good about the 220 except they last forever like a chen shen , BT020s are getting dated too, look at Pilot Roads and Z6sOriginally posted by 02 YZF 6

I just need something inexpensive, somewhat round, black, and grippy, and that'll last me the summer. I hope to commute to work later this summer, so mileage is a factor. I'll look into the other two you mention, but the price will have to be right for whichever I choose.
Personally, i have a set of Metzler Sportec M1's.... i think i found a place that sells em for 210 shipped online, but can't remember where.
Yes, it's a supersport tire, but so far i'm getting an unbelievable amount of milage out of them for what they are. After about 5000 miles (alot of them commuter/highway miles) and three trackdays they still have about 1/3-1/2 tread. I'm pretty impressed for the price.

After reading RandyO's post, I found a few tire reviews on various forums, and the Z6 seems to have a great combo of grip and longevity. I'll hold out for another week or so to find one locally, and then I'll probbaly order one from Ron Ayers. $113 shipped, and $20 mounted at Mr. Pidgeons. I can deal with that.
If you have any trouble getting good prices on Z6s, the BT020s should be great on your bike too.
I want to try the Z6s for my next set of tires, probably next month or so... but I've got no complaints about the 020s.

All the tires I'm looking at (220's, BT020's, Z6's) are all within a few bucks of each other, in the low $100's shipped. It's just a matter of me being a cheapass and never ever wanting to pay retail for anything.
I got my entire christmas shopping done on ebay last year.![]()
$70.00 shipped.
Michelin Macadam 90X. This tire is the daddy to the Michelin Pilot Road. Great all-weather, and very good wear.
170/60-17 and will fit your Thundercat just fine.
PM me!
You can have it at your door Tuesday.

you definatly want to go with a sport touring tirenot a supersport tire,
I run Azaro STs and get 12,000/set
I have heard similar milage with Z6s, Pilot Roads , as well as the D220s, I've just never found Dunlops to have good braking traction

Randy do you think the Azaro STs are harder than BT020s?
I think I have 7700 miles on BT020s right now... they're not ready to be replaced but anyway.. I don't think I want to go to a tire with less grip, but I'd be willing to try the Avons if you think they're pretty good stuff.
Tough decision... supersport tires == fun, but I don't want to wear them out and/or want to have the right tires if I get vacation time for a long trip. If I make it to the track this year I don't want ST tires on the bike for that either.
I think a 2nd set of rims may be in the works next year especially if I get rid of one of my bicycles. (Considering it right now as 3 is too many, I can't ride them all)
Ben
the latest generation of sport touring tires is pretty much just as sticky as last generation sport tires of 5 years ago, a t the same tieme they are sticky, they seem to be lasting 10k miles or more.

I personally run a Pilot road on the rear and I like it.
Front I run a Pilot Sport. That way they wear out at the samepoint. And I have extra grip on the front end.
