If you were just leaving work it probably was cold tires. I know im guilty of pushing a little too hard sometimes when my tires haven't quite warmed up when i'm headin to school.

Still sounds like it was cold tires and a cool road, IMO. but I could be wrong... Summer sun will get the temp of the road alot higher than ambient temp. Makes for quicker warm up on tires.
