Well I had some big plans for my taxes this year but unfortunately I got almost half of what I usually get since my wife finally started working last year. My first priority was some maintence and upgrades for my 06 cbr 1000rr that I bought February of last year. First on my list was a fairing kit, even though I've had a lot of comments about how clean it was for a 10 year old bike. If you looked close you could see a lot of issues like cracks, broken tabs and faded paint. Plus all black just looked too plain to me, so I ordered a kit from one of the better rated Chinese manufactures for a little less then $400 shipped. I can't see paying for oem when I use this bike for a daily driver when ever the temp is over 40 and I will be a lot less angry when damage happens to cheap fairings.
Next up I ordered an Dynojet auto tune, 520 -1 +2, a set of pp3, wrap for my exhaust to hopefully prolong the Chinese fairings, a set of cl braking front pads to replace the clapped out ebc it came with.
Then it was time to address comfort because from the first time I rode this bike I couldn't get comfortable on it for more then 20 mins, I modified my stock seat a cpl time last year which helped but I still wasn't happy, so I ordered a saddle men tech one seat and I zero gravity corsa windshield.
Now maybe it's just me but I felt the single low beam on one side is dangerous plus kinda annoying after you tell the 100th person "no, there isn't a headlight out, ones low beam and the others high beam" riding down back roads after dark when turning on the right the road would disappear unless I had my high beams on. To fix this right I ordered a set of projectors and 6k hids.
Well if I can figure how to upload pics, here's my mostly finished product, next years taxes are gonna be suspension upgrades, I just want to make sure I can ride for extended distances now before investing that much money into a 10 year old bike because even a used set up is gonna be around $2k.![]()
Looks fantastic! That -1 +2 kit must've lit a fire under it on takeoff.![]()
Thank you, I had already went down 1 last year so it didn't really change it too much, although low speed low rpm is a lot smoother now and the front end feels quite a bit lighter at high rpm.
It's just you
If you're saying it's dangerous because it's insufficient light output, then that's one thing. But if you're thinking it's dangerous because it's a single light source that's mounted asymmetrically, then I'd say you're probably over thinking it... in fact, there are people that could (and would) argue the opposite (but IMO, they're probably over-thinking it, too)
Don't get me wrong, the HID projector kit will make things a little safer... but only because you're putting more light on the road, not because it's two symmetrical light sources.
Anyway, I digress.... The fairings look nice! Sharp lookin bike.![]()

Eh, yes and no. Our old Kawi with dual H4's had very good stock lighting. Better than my FZ6 stick with the one high, one low. But there has been times where I've seen a R6 or R1 turning away from me, or approaching from a side street, and not been able to see any headlights, due to the low beam headlight being on the opposite side.
I originally had the dual low beam mod on my FZ6, where it uses the low beam filament of the high beam H4 bulb. The light output was marginal due to the reflector being set up for high beam, but it did make the bike more visible and eliminated the "you have a headlight out" comments. But I've since swapped to dual HID projectors with LED halo DRL's, and they're awesome for visibility and light output.
Valid point... but again, you can argue it either way.
Argument FOR dual symmetrical: With a curved nose, dual headlights are more visible by others in a wider range of angles around the front of the bike.
Argument AGAINST dual symmetrical: Headlights seen by others could be seen as though they are from a car and not a motorcycle and thus the rider is thought to be much further away than they actually are.
Bottom line, I honestly don't think either configuration makes a very noticeable difference over the other in rider safety. But HID's sure do.

Unless, like most altered lights on vehicles (cars or bikes), they are not aimed properly or not installed in housings that are actually designed for them and they blind any oncoming traffic significantly enough that they can't actually see where you are and run into you anyhow.
Just a pet peeve of mine. See so many vehicles on the road with modified lights that blind the crap out of oncoming traffic because they weren't designed to be used that way. Kind of like the police wondering why so many officers on the side of the road at night are getting hit. People are blinded by the overly bright LED light bars and can't see the cop walking in the road and run them over.
So I don't completely fubar the thread, the mods look good!
Looks good. How did you like the quality of the body kit? Where did you get it from?
I have the same pet peeve that's why I ordered a projector kit, completely disassembled my housings, threw my old reflectors out and blacked out the rest of the inside to prevent any glare. Unless you are looking dead into the projectors exactly Right there is absolutely no glare kinda like a regular running light but in the beam it's like looking into the sun!!!
Thank you, I bought it from auctmart and the quality is pretty good, the plastic is thicker then oem but still quite flexible. Most everything lined up pretty good and the paint is very good. Sure there's a few imperfections and lots of specks of dirt but I know it's damn near impossible to prevent that stuff. I had to trim a strip off one side to clear my arrow header and I tested the piece I cut off by bending and twisting trying to get the paint to crack, the paint stayed perfect until I twisted enough to actually damage the plastic!!
