One word, PIAA.
I have been using the PIAA lamps I bought off e-bay for over a year now without any blowouts. And just remember that wattage is a measurment of heat produced. The PIAA lamps will only draw the 55-65w like your OEM setup and produce much brighter light. The knockoff's will draw twice that and burnout much quicker and posibly melt some stuff in the proccess.

I have see a few *REAL* HID setups on VFRs lately.
You would have a harder time hiding the ballast on a naked bike but you could probably do it. The ballast is a little box that is needed to create the very high voltage to start the arc. It is about the size of a regulator/rectifier or the ECU box.
It sounds like it costs $600-1000 to do it right though.
You WOULD have the brightest ZRX on the planet though.

What a ripoff on the shipping $ for that eBay auction....
No, Donny, these men are nihilists. There's nothing to be afraid of.

I think you liked the one I had on my bike which is a
Super Xtreme 4200k/3950k
H4 12v 60/55w = 135/125w
The ones in my truck that have a slight purple halo are the
Super Plasma GT-X 5000k/3800k
H4 12v 60/55w = 135/120w
I prefer the one in my bike because it is a whiter light and lets you see a whole hell of alot better. I originally had the GTX in the bike but I wanted a whiter light.
Here is the PIAA site with the kevlin scale so you can get an idea of the kind of light you are getting. PIAA
Example...4300k=HID light and 5250k is sunlight .

I had a "Superwhite" 90/100 watt H4 bulb on my bike. When I went to get it inspected they guy told me that they were illegal and a cop can fine me for them because the bulbs had a blue tint to them.
They were brighter by a good amount than stockers, but it was also a higher wattage. Any tint on the bulb itself is going to reduce overall intensity and make the actual bulb hotter.
I would up the wattage but stick with a clear bulb. I am not sure how strict cops are in your area, but its can be one less thing for them to bust your balls about if you stay with a clear bulb.
thanks ed. so this is gonna sound dumb (as expected from me) but how do I know what kind of bulb will fit on my bike? I have never had to replace a bulb on my car, jeep or bike before....Originally posted by PinHead

If you have a manual for the bike it will tell you. Or remove the old one and look at the numbers on it.
