although it seems to be labeled as a 1290 supermoto

i suppose you could just do this with it though

yeah...i have to agree with you there.
thats is definitely more targeted at the Multi crowd that the 1190/1290 A
my next major bike purchase was most likely going to be an adventure bike. but that SD GT is hard to pass over.

KTM seems really good about taking 2 different bikes, blending them together and making a another great bike out of it

I don't care if you call it an adventure bike or a sport tourer. Either way, the Multi/S1000xr/DL1000/this 1290 GT formula of an upright, street oriented big-bore bike makes a ton of sense. Easy to ride, comfortable, quick and just as sporty as the full on sport bikes they steal their engines from. I think traditional sport tourers clad from head to toe in plastics and part way leaned forward are on the way out. Even Honda is getting into this with this new VFR1200X. I bet it outsells the plain VFR1200.
