Rich,
To my understanding only Verizon's Navigator GPS service will work for turn by turn type of GPS service.
I've downloaded AmazeGPS (http://www.amazegps.com/welcome.php) with no luck....it's all on Verizon. They have not unlocked the GPS to 3rd party apps.
It may be different for your phone, I'm on a Blackberry
my gzone has gps

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
I've got VZ Navigator on my phone... works pretty good. Not great but it does what I need it to do & comes free w/ my premium plan.

I have a HTC mogul VX6800. Stock the internal GPS is not accessible to 3rd party software. With an upgraded rom and radio it can be. I used to run a hacked ROM on it. Mapping was provided by Google maps mobile. It worked great when it was running. Being that it is Windows, it eventually crashed on me and a hard reset was required. I have yet to reinstall the hacked ROM.
Check out http://www.ppcgeeks.com for all the files you need and how-to's.
Palm with Verizon will work with an external bluetooth GPS. I got and older treo I can let go cheap if your interested. Then you can run TomTom on the Treo and its essentially free. I think I even have a bluetooth GPS I could throw in.
