took my first shot at a shim-under-bucket valve train this weekend.... it was not trivial but surprisingly less difficult than expected. Every single valve was out of spec... and to my pleasant surprise the dealership had the shim sizes i needed, and only charged about $5 a piece.
I fired her up after reassembly and she seems to be running well, we'll see if i got everything exactly right when i beat the bag out of her tomorrow!![]()

is that the bike in your avatar? my roommate runs a yz450 on the dirt, looking for a setup for street tires.... where did u get yours and how much?
FYI Brent,
As you seem like a "do it yourselfer", check out the shim kits you can get for your YZ450 from Hotcams. 5$ a shim isnt too bad when you've only got 4 shims you need.
But a shim kit almost pays for itself after a few adjustments! Your lady friend's YZ426 could use shims out of the same kit too.

I have the 9.48mm kit for my SM510R.
They should call Production Twins what it really is, Shitty McBikefest. Rules for Participation: If your bike runs lower laptimes than a lawnmower, you are not eligibile for Shitty McBikefest. -Darrell

She ran great for the track day!
The wheels for that bike came with it, it was R7's race bike last year.
www.eastcoastwheels.com has wheel kits, i think thats where this set came from. you're probably looking at $1500 when all is said and done if you buy everything new.
Shop around, as these bikes get more popular, more and more used wheels are coming available. you could probably get a used set for something in the $600 range.
