Somehow I ended up organizing a customtacos.com meet @ F1 boston.
1.) does anyone know what kind of cars there are? auto? manual? are they bad on your back?
2.) does anyone from here want to come?
3.) any tips for organizing such an event?![]()
Get the Grand Prix packages...it makes it a little cheaper.
The cars are auto and they aren't that bad for your back...though I have no back problems.
Cars are auto. I can see how they can be hard on some backs. No suspension and hard plastic seats. There are a few bumps out there. I kept bottoming out in the corkscrew on one car.
I dont think you want some of these clowns going if you have an even organized for friends.
Grand prix is the way to go. I think you need 11 drivers, but at least you know everyone on the track.
Auto, One speed. Fast. Well for an indoor cart. 45ish1.) does anyone know what kind of cars there are? auto? manual? are they bad on your back?
My buddy still reminds me of the time I hit him from behind and he had a bruise for a few weeks. "it hurt"

4.) I was scribbling down the costs over the phone, and somehow I wrote down that:
-track 1 = $15
-track 2 = $18
then it costs $28/1st race, $28/2nd race, etc.
does that mean there's a track fee (of $15-$18) + the race fee ($28)?
or did I mean to write down track 1 = 15 laps, track 2 = 18 laps?
5.) and for those that have gone, how many races are enough for a meet? 2-3?

prrrret-ty fun stuff:
going to F1 is like going bowling: so long as the tracks aren't booked for racing (remedied by a quick phone call ahead), just show up, pay, and drive (even if it's by yourself)
for the city course, how do you break into the 20's?
this is what I did:
-full throttle up the straight
-maintain the highest speed possible around the upper turn by driving wide (close to full throttle, heavy steering input)
-start wide, and cut in tight around the hairpin
-full throttle, heavy steering, wide turn under the bridge (some drifting necessary)
-stay straight through curves
-keep speed high and carefully slide around front line under full throttle
don't take the turn at the top of the hill wide. Literally hit the apex. there's more traction on the inside than there is the outside. Hit the apex & it'll hook you around w/o too much sliding while keeping the gas at WFO.
The Carousel is designed to make everyone slow... the key is to be fast into & fast out of it. Jam on the brakes at the very last moment, let the ass end kick out to the point that you almost spin out to get the car turned & pointed the other way & start getting on the gas before you let off the brake.
After that it's just a matter of keeping it WFO as much as possible while minimizing the slides & making every corner as straight as possible. Do so by literally hitting the apex & exit. If I do a lap w/o just brusing the wall at each apex & exit it's a slow lap.
It also helps if you're not 180 lbs.
They also have two configurations & I can't tell from the pics which one it's in... when you come out of the tunnel is there a hard right hander before the final left hand turn? or is a straight shot out of the tunnel to the last left hander? If it's the kinked back straight (out of tunnel, hard right then hard left) it'll slow you down by about a second or two.

damn...great stuff
I'm def. not hitting the apex around the top/bridge corner nor barely bruising the wall around each turn
now I want to go back and perfect my runs!
the track that I was on has a hairpin left turn, a hard right turn under the bridge, then straight road to the front turn/finish line...it's the city course/1, why?
They have two configurations of the city course. Sometimes they add in an extra turn... you take a right out of the tunnel as always, but then you make a slight left & go along the wall towards the scoring tower, then hard right, before a u-turn left to the finish line. Othertimes it's a straight shot out of the tunnel to the final left hand turn. That's the quicker config.
