My friend, Aaron, who's local to Boone, NC is arranging this.
I will post details as I get them.
As of right now, the plan is to rip up The Snake and surrounding areas.
Cabin rates are still being worked out but here are some details to get started:
"Home" will be at Rider's Roost Motorcycle Resort - Fergusen, NC: http://www.ridersroost.com/
DO NOT contact the Rider's Roost for reservations just yet. Rates and other details are still being figured out.Originally Posted by VA_rider
This trip will take place in between race weekends so you are safe if you are a racer but still wish to go.
I will be trucking my machine down and might have room for one or two more machines, depending on how things unfold.
I might be trying for a trackday during this trip, depending on available dates, cost, etc.
I respectfully request that you seriously consider your riding skills before committing. These roads are nothing like anything you've seen in this area. If you have any discomfort in navigating, say, the App Gap at a sporting pace you might want to think about that or perhaps plan on taking in the sights rather than crashing. I want all of our riders to be safe no matter what.
I have to say, when I rode back from FL, I had more fun on The Snake than anywhere else during that trip. Deal's Gap was great but The Snake was greater, IMHO.
Please post questions or commitment level.

I agree the Snake is definately better than the Gap. I'd like to get back down there this spring. I used to live 10 mins from the Snake. Is this open to anyone? Anyone = me![]()
For you guys that are interested in going but haven't ridden the Snake before heres a couple vids of my friends riding at the Playground and making a run from the country store in Shady Valley to the Playground. The vids show only about 1/8 of the best riding on the Snake not to mention all the other great roads in this area like US 181 in North Carolina (beautiful 100+ mph knee down sweepers) Don't mind the music in the second vid ...it's some of the local "old timer's"....they are in there 50's and 60's and could smoke most of the young riders around here... it is a great vid to show the road
The Snake is the same riding as the Gap only less traffic and much more riding

I may be interested, Ferguson is about in 75 miles from my grandparents in Mt. Airy, NC. I've always wanted to bring the bike down to their neck of the woods. This is a prime opportunity!
I like how the SUV in the 2nd vid pulls over to let the bikes by. Don't get that around here![]()
Yeah thats super common down there...most slower bikes are the same way...on the other hand most all the local riders are very curtious as well (no passing cars in corners giving cars/bikes a chance to see you and pull to the side before passing). The locals at the Snake are very cool, friendly people...also much less of a squid scene there as opposed to the Gap

Google Map of the area?

I'd like to offer space in my trailer for parts, tires, bikes, whatever.
As things start to pan out, I may be able to take up to two bikes and any number of tires and what not.
The man does not lie.
The Gap was kind of a let down for me, in a sense. For example: I was pacing a group of 6 choppers that, no lie, did 15 to 20 mph in the turns.... 4 miles later they finally "got it" and moved over.
Simply put, it's more open on the Snake, less people and there are some incredibly fast sections!
Additionally, when you see any given cage making an actual effort to slide over so you can dip into the next set of twisties....I mean...come on....that right there is worth making the trip. No hatred toward bikes whatsoever in that area.
I've been on this road. And it was incredible. No comparison to the App Gap for many reasons. I thought I was running a solid pace, then saw 3-4 locals coming the other direction with knees down running within a couple feet of each other. I only saw 2-3 cagers down and back from NC to TN to NC.
Hope to make it in May. Otherwise, enjoy all!
This sounds pretty awesome.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Based on what I've read, I'd rather go here than the Dragon. That and my grandmothers place is only two or so hours from there.
Hmmmm....
Talk to me, people.
I need to start looking at a rough idea of attendees for the hotel arrangements.
Post your interest, tentative or otherwise.
Looks like fun !!

No confirmation needed.
We're working on getting a block of rooms reserved for the entire group over at the Roost. I'm trying to account for the possible interested parties on this forum as well.
This meet is posted on at least two other forums and with that we're trying to make sure everyone has ample time to post up their interest.
Once the room pricing gets finalized, the only comfirmation needed is with the Roost. When people make their reservations with the Roost, I respectfully ask at that time to PM me your emergency contact(s) along with your name and forum name. I will be handling the contact info for the NESR riders as that information does not need to be passed along to other attendees.

Any takers on this trip?
From Boston what is this about 13 hour drive?, looks like a good time, hmmm..
curious what is the drive time to the Tail from Boston?
Prolly another 3 hrs or so.
A good portion of the roads in that general area tend to be rather mundane as far as speeds go.
Also, keep in mind that the Dragon is nice but usually very crowded. That's why we're taking this a bit north of the Dragon. Either way you go, the roads in that area are simply oustanding no matter what.
Any takers?
Bus leaves at 2am, Friday morning.
