Who woulda thunk, RI as a hot spot for alternate motorcycle racing, this AND ice racing

Just down the road from me, can get there in the trails.... been a few times, good event. Always guys out there riding/practicing, I see trucks with trials bikes in the back all the time.

This is a really cool event. Absolutely insane to watch the best in the world do it. It can be very dusty. Try to park away from the trail to/from the woods.

Little known fun fact. Just over from the trials area was a little ski place called Pine Top. 1978 Mister Pibb AMA 125 and 500 National MX. A friend, my Dad and I went. A really rainy day heading to the track. A dry day at the track. Low turnout. First and last national MX for RI. I got to see one of my heroes race, the late and great Marty Smith. I can still smell the Castor oil from those works Hondas and Yamahas.

IIRC it was the one and only Pine Top National. I remember thinking the track went through some pretty steep sections of woods. Wish it would come back.

As for the trials event, hopefully this year they have some vendors show up to sell shirts. The Rhode Island Trials Club had shirts that were commemorative shirt for the 1975 Wagner Cup. Nice shirts and I bought one to support the local club. That said I'd have bought more if I ran across more vendors with world championship markings.

I think that day was the beginning of the end for the ski area. It might be state land now. I mountain biked through there about 20 years ago and other than some lift pole bases and maybe a shack not much to resemble what it was.

I got to race a couple NESC races at Berkshire East ski area. That was fun, just a natural track up and down hills.
