    Its been a while...............

Its been a while since I posted anything about my new ride, or anything else for that matter. Well time to catch up on the news.

Since I took delivery of th CBR600RR on May 15, I have logged 9450 miles. This weekend I am heading for Deals Gap. By the time I'm done with this trip I will prolly have 12,000 miles on her. I think with the kind of miles I seem to put on bikes I may be thinking of a different type of bike other than a Sport bike. The problem is I don't have any idea of what bike to buy that will deliver the thrill of a sport bike and the comfort of an all out touring bike.

I figured I'd consult with the family here at NESR to get some suggestions.

    Help please.

You mean the rock hard seat and extremely radical position is aggravating you? The new generation of sportbikes is getting more and more racier. Comfort is a thing of the past. Compare the ergos on the old ZX-6R to the new ZX-6R(636). The F4 compared to the 600RR is another good example. The legroom has become shorter, the clipons are lower, and the reach is longer. At my height of 6'0", I bet I could not last 1 hour on a new sportbike...

I think my ZRX1200 is slightly uncomfortable and it is a sofa compared to some bikes.

I would buy a bike along the range of a Z1000, Ducati Monster, SV1000 (without fairing), or Aprilia Falco if you want sporty, yet comfortable.

You're a Honda man, what about a Viffer? There's a guy up here in windham selling a mint '99 with 16k on the odo, I think he's asking 4800 but it was on ebay at 3800 and received no bids, so I wonder if he might be flexible. I was gonna check it out m'self, but we never firmed up on a time before I wised up and checked back in to the kwakker fold

My old bike, the ZX-6E, wouldn't make a bad sport tourer either. You'd probably want to firm up the front a bit if you're a hard rider, but it's a good bike all the same, 6 1/2" of bar rise and a soft seat, and they're old tech so good deals on them abound. If you do happen upon a 2000 though, in red with 3k on the odo and a few scratches on the left mid fairing, do me a favor and punch the guy in the face for me

If you want to go all out how about a BMW K1200GT. One of the UK mags recenetly wrote a pretty convincing article about this bike. They said it could canyon carve with the best of them. $18k gets you lots of gadgets too. Heated seated, power adjustable windscreen, ABS...

On the less pricey side i'd say SV1000S or ZX-9R.

    Ducati?

I may seem biased in favor of the brand, but I'm really impressed with the ST2/ST4 Ducatis. I rode home from motomarket a couple weeks back with a guy an ST2 and we were flying and he was just as fast, and more comfortable. With the ST2 you get the easier maint/cheaper service of the 2 valve twin, with the 4 you get the 916 engine, one of the best ever. If I were you I'd seriously consider these bikes... or a Viffer.

With the Ducati, you'll need to change the seat right away. I know a guy with an ST2 who rides it like a bowl of molasses, and even he had to change the seat for the 3000 miles he's "managed" to put on in the three years of ownership.

FZ1? Hmmm? I think there is a trend forming here....

Bandit? With the money you could save on that thing, you could throw a turbo on it and a full set of Ohlin's.....well not really, but it still is a cheap bike to be had if you go used.

Triumph Sprint ST? Over a hundred horse.....comfortable....if you like how it looks, then you can't go wrong.

Or how about the new Kawasaki ZZR1200? Big, but fast and comfy....
