Hey guys, just discovered this forum and I have some questions about your group rides...
Mainly, what is the pace like? In the FAQ there are specific things to do regarding being pulled over by the police, and an order to not run from them. Judging by those notes alone my assumption is that you guys like to go fastI'm a relatively new rider (only about 2500 miles under my belt) with an '04 Ninja 250. My bike has plenty of speed for regular street riding (0-60 in just under 6 with a top speed of about 95mph) - I'm just wondering if I should have any concerns before venturing out there with my 30hp bike.
Thanks!
Some groups are fast and some are slow. If you do join in, dont feel you have to keep up. Usually there is a sweeper or someone will wait for you for safety reasons and so you dont take wrong turns. The important thing is to ride your own ride and at a pace you are comfortable with. If you push too hard and you are not ready for higher speed you will crash. No one is going to make fun of you for being slow and safe. Keep it at your level, not the other riders.

Bruce, yer full of wisdom for the newbs today

My ride's
95 FZR 1000
19xx DOUBLE "D"
(sold) 02 CBR600 F4i (track bike)
06 Chevy Supercharged Cobalt SS
i'm not the best rider out there either and fairly new myself. Whenever there is a turn coming up someone will wait to make sure no one misses it and as they have said, there is usually a sweeeper back there that knows the route. Everyone here is good natured (cept for beet) and you wont get left behind. If the intent for a ride is fast then you will know ahead of time anyway. There are a couple of people that will post rides that really like to rip but it will be known before you get there.

welcome.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm definetley looking forward to some rides this year! None of my friends ride so it'll be nice to meet some people who are as obsessed as me.
I live in Boston but my bike is still in storage at my parents garage. Hopefully I'll have it out in a couple weeks for some nice brisk march riding![]()

I've lead a few group rides here on NESR and tend to be one of the easier paced riders. But you can be sure you will know you have gone for a ride by the end of the day. Just ask some of the peeps here.
Be glad ta have ya along so you can spread ya wings.

I'm down for some Boston newbie-paced riding.
My bike is over 15 years old, and I only have ~2600 miles under my belt. So I won't be waiting on the straights.
Where are people in Boston, when you're around town?
I live near the MFA in Mission Hill. My apartment complex has underground motorcycle parking for $70 a month - gonna cost me $220/mo to park both my jeep and my bike here![]()
HAH, i'm on the other side of the MFA right behind Symphony Hall across the street from the bar Our House East... i have a 1.5 car driveway behind my appartment that's included in my rent and i'm gonna park my bike behind our fence in our little back yard![]()

Welcome to riding!
You owe it to yourself to get up to NH and do some riding up there. Here's a thread from SVrider for the 1st group ride I did, which was last Sept. It was both a blast and very uneventful from a safety perspective.

parking is CRAZY expensive in boston & i know 1000 people that pay twice what he does for for a single car... i just happen to be super lucky & can park my bike in my backyard for free. I was also letting him know that so if he wanted to ask "hey Oreo, can i park my bike there, too?" he was welcome to & i could see if we could work somethin out

Just kidding. I live at home and I never keep the bike in Boston overnight.
When I am in town, I park on the BU campus, which according to a clause of the "Lifebook":
"Bicycles, motorcycles, and mopeds may be chained to designated racks..."
Which loosely translates into: You can park your motorcycle (for free) by chaining it to any bike rack.
I've seen bikes parked on the street for months, under a cover, with no ticket. Scooters chained to parking meters, also under a cover, with no ticket. Overall, it's a crapshoot. But if it stays low-key, as it does right now, I'm sure it's well within the confines of free, legal parking.
How about this: If I ever stop by your place, can I park my bike there too?
I have a feeling you get what you pay for leaving a MC in Boston unattended for days. Maybe I'd do it with a total beater but nothing else...

I live in Central Sq right behind the Middle East. Watch your back down by the MFA. I've known numerous people who have had bikes and cars stolen and vandalized in that area (myself included...had stero stolen out of car 3 years ago).
People who live in the city have one of the best (shorter) roads in state of MA right in their backyard: Storrow Drive. You just gotta hit it when traffic is low, know where cops hang out on the straight-a-ways, and keep your eye open for undercover cars. That road has great turns and straightaways (and some brilliant on / off ramps). I'm always down for riding on weekends, after work, or even before work in the AM
hit me up with the weather gets a bit better.

In fact, once we start having parties over here anyone is welcome to park their bike in my back yard... of course we probably can't fit a whole lot, only like 5 or so reasonably - 10 MAX, but you're more than welcome
even w/ a car in the driveway we can still fit a few more bikes in there as well, but that's not out of sight. though i've left it there overnight a few times w/ no problems.
