Thumbs up Southeast Connecticut Ride July 9th @ 9am

    Southeast Connecticut Ride
    July 9, 2011 (rain date July10)
Ride Start: Vanilla Bean Cafe, Pomfret, CT

    Kickstands up at 9:00 am

This ride will be unique in that it is going to be a group ride without any groups! The idea is that there will be a number of stops along the way where riders can socialize. Riders will ride by themselves or with a few friends - there will be no large groups. Everyone rides at their own pace. The route is very nice with a number of "Best of New England" roads like Grassyfield Rd, Mt Archer Rd, Joshuatown Rd, Hopyard Rd, 207, 169, and 97. Some of these may surprise you. There will be a number of "Best of New England" stops at places like Gillette Castle, the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry, and the Devil's Hopyard Waterfall. Food will be at "Best of New England" places like Harry's and the Vanilla Bean Cafe.

I have added a Google Map of the Route: http://goo.gl/maps/0efj

I previewed the Route this past weekend and was very pleased. Nice twists on Grassy Hill Rd, Joshuatown Rd, and Hopyard Rd.

Fun riding. Grassy Hill Rd is more technical. Joshuatown Road also commands respect.

I pre-rode this route and am very happy with it. The twists on joshuatown Road, Grassyfield Road, and Hopyard Road will put a smile on your face.

The kind where experienced riders can go first and drag pucks through the corners and newer riders can go last and take it a little slower. Everyone ends up at the same places and the newbies don't feel excluded.

Thank you. The route is a good one. Tight and technical mixed with scenic & sweepers. So far 50 are coming, but there are no groups. Riders can ride as fast or as slow as they want. I like the concept.

Re: Southeast Connecticut Ride July 9th @ 9am

There are 3 Great Twisty Roads on the July 9th Southeast CT Ride:

    1) Grassy Hill Road (BONE road) from Chesterfield, CT to East Lyme, CT. Grassy Hill has a couple of turns that you have to be careful of, but FUN, FUN, FUN! Thanks to DRDave for this one

    Figure1: Grassy Hill Rd

    2) Joshuatown Road (BONE road) in Old Lyme, CT. This is my favorite of the three. very twisty and very scenic. There might be a few patches of sand so beware.

    Figure 2: Joshuatown Road

    3) Hopyard Road/Hawleyville Road. Very fun twisty through Devil's Hopyard State Park. Be sure to stop at Chapman Falls for a scenic BONE view.

    50 riders huh?

Careful through the hopyard, that place is ripe for getting picked off by an oncoming vehicle if your even close to the yellow... Plus because of the state park, there's going to be a lot of people around...

I've ridden the Hopyard many times.

Riders on this ride will not go through the Hopyard together. This is a ride where everyone rides on their own and by the time they reach the Hopyard there should be a spread of at least an hour between the first rider and the last. The pre-ride talk will pay careful attention to Grassy Hill Road, Joshuatown Road, and Hopyard Road. Joshuatown Road is much more technical then the Hopyard.
