Wow, Sorry to here that. Was someone ridding back with him when he went down again? Did you hear how bad off he is ?

Well I had a great time riding Saturday - Great weather - as long as your moving
Sorry I couldn't stay to long at the party V, but it was getting dark and I didn't bring a clear sheild. The ride back home was a little tough - Mirrored/tinted sheild and lots of bugs splattering on it I was glad when I pulled in my garage.
It was nice to see some people again and nice to meet a bunch more -- till the next ride

That's definitely not one you'd hear from me, the reason I picked this ride as my first group ride since my May crash was because it was to be medium-paced.

And for those wondering why I crashed a section time, my triple-tree had loosened during the first crash. I was rounding a nice easy 30mph curve a few miles from the original crash, when my front wheel decided it no longer wanted to agree with the handlebars. I managed to straighten the front wheel and ended up in an endo that would make a stunta blush, until the rear of the bike demanded its turn up front.

I was thrown down pretty hard and almost blacked out, but thankfully a Jeep had been coming the other way at the exact moment of the crash. The couple driving helped me get the bike back up and got EMT's and towing en route, and also were really helpful in giving statements to the officer. I think I heard "he was going really slow, something just went wrong with his bike" at least 3 or 4 times during their statement.

The EMT's recommended I take a trip to the ER, and I wasn't about to argue with the pain I had shooting through my entire right side. I got enough x-rays to envy the treatment of a cancer patient, but everything checked out OK. I'm now home for a few days off work and a prescription for some percocet.

The bike damage looks to be almost entirely plastics and some straightening of the front end, so at least it hopefully won't be totaled this time around. Let this drive home two lessons, ATGATT, and always be sure your bike is 100% after a crash.

That was the first crash. The other rider had gone down around a blind hairpin, I saw him getting up as I rounded the corner. I knew that I was running a bit wide on the turn in the first place (quite a few others did, but made it). Unfortunately, with the line I had taken, it was a choice of my bike hitting the rider, or laying it down into the shoulder. I laid it down and slid into the shoulder, missing the rider but hitting his bike; still a better choice than 450lbs of metal vs a rider.

It was a sucky situation, but I'd still rather lay my bike down than send someone away in an ambulance.

The other rider headed home before I had gotten everything back on my bike. I also didn't want to head back on I-90 like he was due to my fairing threatening to shake apart.

From what I understood, you two were supposed to ride home together...that's why I left with the group. If I knew you went on your way alone with your bike in that condition, I would have turn around and ride back with you.

On a side note, when you put together a big group ride like that and one crash and the bike is in so-so condition, what is the right approach to take in a situation like that? It has never happend to me before. I didn't know what to do. You have one rider down, and a whole other group just standing on the side of the road and waiting. Can't have them just stay there for so long, and can't have the rider left alone either. The group needs a leader if they don't know where they're going, but isn't also the leader's responsibility to make sure the rider down is not left alone to go back home...

What are you advices? There is so many variables...if the bike and rider are relatively OK, they might be able to keep going. But in this case the bike was too damaged altho the rider was OK besides some road rash on his arm. I feel like SHIT. I know I wouldn't have wanted to be left alone.

Side note # 2: Weren't they awsome twisties tho? (told you they were very thight...LOL)
Side note # 3: Who were all these half nakked old people in the river doing??? Did I dream this or seemed like there was an awful LOT of MALES vs female ratio??? WEIRD.

Terminal, one of these times you are not going to get up.

I can only imagine the reaction when you got home to your wife. Any married guy can relate to that. Holy shit.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune with the two riders.

I've been in large groups that have had up to three leaders and two sweepers that also have leading experience. One leader is at the front and the other two are inside the pack somewhere or leading each of the "slow" and "fast" groups. Sweepers do their thing and sweep.

Voluteers stay with the downed riders. If medical is called the voluteers secure the crashed bikes somewhere as safe as possible.

If no medical, then no crashed bike rides until everyone that remains at the scene has looked it over and is certain the bike is 100% safe for riding.

That's what I've seen in the past. Hope it helps.
