I would like to go but... I heard something about bikes getting stolen last year. Like 6 or so???? And I have a bike that's not that common, I'm 'fraid

i have a katana, so I doubt thats too popular with the thiefs. Maybe someone could take a nice thinck chain and we can cahin them together.

don't you lock it? Anytime I feel uneasy I use my hub lock.

Those hub lock don't work to well when they get like 4 or 5 guys to pick up the bike and put it in a truck.

Do you have any more details about this event? I've never heard of it.

IIRC correctly, for the marcus dairy thievings, they put the front wheel on a skateboard and rolled them into the truck.

After my bike got stolen I started using a big-ass chain to attach it to a nearby post. Now it's only susceptible to thieves with bigger-ass bolt cutters

While that is true, it would be my assumption (oh shiat!) that with so many bikes to choose from they will take the ones without the locks to make it that much faster easier and go undetected. Also, if the rally of sorts is outdoors as I expect it would be, I would have to believe that 5 guys picking up a bike and putting it in a truck would be pretty obvious.

There is no such thing as a "theft proof" but I do believe in a deterent. Additionally, I believe that my fear of being a victim shall never stop me from what I want to do in life.

Not trying to be the devil here...but isn't it insured?

I have been to tons of biker events and the majority of them you are in a lot or area of some kind with all the participants mulling around and checking out each others bikes and meeting new people. I always have an eye out in the direction of my bike. I guess I just don't understand owning something that you are so afraid of loosing that you will not go someplace that you really want to go.

Unless of course, you just are not interested then...thats a whole new thing.

I've got one of the Kryptonite locks with the super heavy duty chain. If you're riding with another person you can use it to chain both the bikes together - it makes it a little harder for someone to steal them (either that of they get 2 bikes for the price of 1)

I guess the sad reality is that if someone really wants to steal your bike - odds are they will find a way to do it. That's probably why insurance is so damn expensive.

depends on how early you get there. But it gets packed and Im sure most people cant really see the areas where there bike is. Lets bring a huge ass chain and rope 3 or 4 bikes together

I went a few years ago. Interesting mix of sportbikes and Harleys - TONS of bikes. Sure, it would suck to have your bike stolen but I certainly wouldn't let that keep me from going.

Totally cool. I never thought you were being the devil!!! I have a lock for my rear break and a kryponite lock. I do have insurance too. I've heard the things though about the 5 guys picking up a bike and throwing it into the back of a truck!!! Goddamn that would suck!!!

Anyway, I try not to live my life in fear either. Hence the motorcycle

I'm in.....katana0215 I'll get up with you once the date gets closer...or sooner seeing that you are only 15-20mins from me.

I just need to get my bike reg. and ins.!!! Days like today I want to jab a fork in my eye cuz I can't ride

BTW - I have a big cable-type lock that we can use to connect as many bike that'll fit.

nice bigred. I know of 2 other RI people who are starting out with me. One from ODFU and the otehr from Katanaplanet. We will be meeting with another guy in Groton and then some more guys in Meriden
