It's time for yet another White Mountain rip.
**Weather Permitting**
Pace: 'B-' Pace (Legally spirited)
Mid-Morning Departure - 9:30am
Plan on about 300 miles. Ride will include HMR, Pinkham Notch, (Possibly Mt. Washington Auto Rd), Presidential Hwy, Evans Notch, Kancamagus and a scenic ride back south into southern NH.
As always... exact departure point will be provided via PM to interested riders. ANyone with a long slab ride is welcome to contact me ahead of time to arrange for overnight accomodations the night before.
Most know, but for those who dont:
PM, call or text for more details
- I dont do highways
- I wont ride 16 all the way up
- I dont care what you have (or dont have) for gear
I'm in. I'll recruit NinjaJim.
06 RC46
If it's nice out I'll definitely be interested...let me know
I'm in if the weather is right.

LoL well i'm in me and a friend are riding up from central MA (worcester) if anyone else wants to join us
Stop at polly's pancake parlor in sugar hill. Place is great!
If all else fails, Lean more....
Question for some of our North Country Experts:
Has anyone ever rode the Success Pont/Slippery Hill Rd Loop just north of Berlin?
I've only done it on a snowmobile and it seemed 'cool' but never on a bike. This might be a route option to explore on Sunday if anyone has positive feedback on it?
I may be down for Sunday barring some maintenance shit.
What time are you expecting to be back by? I have to be back in the Boston area by 3:30 or so.
Realistically, you'd never be back in time.... I plan on 2-2½ hrs up to the WMNF, Mt. Washington up and down is a good hour or so, tearing up the notches another hour or 2, the kanc is another hour, take account for lunch, fuel, piss and pit stops, and a 100 mile slab ride home, Boston-folk would be looking at being home by dinner time, Southern NH... figure 5ish.
I've done this (and similar) rips with Stiggy, NinjaJim, Ken and others this year so I can pretty much count on time estimates being accurate. The only 'x' factor i have right now is whether or not we do success pond (which adds an hour or so), and I'd like some feedback on that before I commit to it with a group, or perhaps next week I'll ride it solo to test it out first.
That being said, here is the plan so far:
-We'll depart early/mid morning
-Tackle HMR off the bat from East to West
-Head through newly paved Pinkham Notch,
-Climb the auto road ($14 cash or credit card accepted)
-Head north to Gorham (at which point we'll either head East to cover Evans Notch, or north to Success Pond)
- FOr those who have NOT done the auto road be prepared for:
- Temps 50 degrees or less
- Wind over 50mph
- possibility of less than 25' visibility (use of hazard lights may be helpful)
- ...or it could be 60 degrees and perfectly clear with Boston skyscrapers in the distance!
-Make our way back to Rte 302 and Bear Notch
-High-tail Bear Notch & the Kancamagus into Lincoln
-From Lincoln, I'll be taking 175 south back home (avoiding Sunday traffic on I-93 and a cramping slab ride) but others may choose to split down the interstate instead.
I wish I could go![]()
I am 80% down for this, and possibly 1 friend. PM sent.
OK, thanks for the heads up Chris. I'll duck out of this one, but if you get another one going let me know.
ok....what does Pace-B mean ? Just wondering whether I could join you guys.
So far so good with weather.
We have a nice group forming already. I'll put together a group PM to everyone by tomororw with any added details before the weekend.
I like to refer to it as 'legally spirited'. We usually indicate within 15-20 of the limit, with few exceptions, no one gets stopped. Passing is fine, just be safe and wait at the next intersection if not everyone made it. If you wanna stunt keep it away from the group for safety (preferably in the back)
There are several of us on this ride that know the area well so I'm not concerned with anyone breaking the lead and having fun, just be courteous to the rest of the riders. I've personally never gotten a ticket on my bike, and don't plan on it so I think anyone you ask that I ride with regularly will agree it's a very easy pace to follow and enjoy the ride with the ability to rip out in front if you like.
ok....that sounds doable for me. I guess am in. I am a lil slow....new to riding in the States(forget stunting, might rip the bike a few times if safe). So I will ride at the end of the pack maybe.
A route map would be good...is it possible ? I`ll mount a GPS and that should be able to guide me incase i fall behind the group.
I am riding from Boston downtown...anybody coming from around here ???
