    Sunrise Ride - Mt. Washington

I'm starting to poke around a bit. Looks like gates open at 4:30am. I'm guessing at 2:00am a quick trip up Route 28 to Route 16 would take a couple hours tops for me. Although the prepay/reservation of $55.00 seems a bit steep for a bike without a passenger. And in a moment's notice, the weather could dictate the chances of even allowing bikes.

Next (and last for this year) date is Sunday, August 25. I remember Sheppo talking about doing this a little while back. Anyone else done in on a bike? Anyone else have any interest in trying it this year?

It was the best ride I've ever done. Words can't describe it for me. I think you missed the July date and only have the August date available. For me I left at Midnight and met 2 others in Hampton and rode 95N to 16N and we got there at 4:10am Staged about 35 minutes in line, then got on the way. We had a very windy ride up, as a matter of fact we were the last 3 motorcycles let up the road that morning. High sustaining winds with 70mph gusts.
Next year I'll borrow a bike and do it again.

Yup, next & last date this year is August 25th. I vividly remember reading about your venture. I'm very interested in doing this, but the fact that they can deny you at any moment (understandably) kinda has me questioning myself. Then again, I guess worse case is I'm up in northern NH nice & early!

I’ll be at Lake Winnipasauke for this, so if I manage to find a way to bring my Multi along I may be able to join.

Re: Sunrise Ride - Mt. Washington

Five years ago Sylwia convinced me to ride up Cadillac Mountain with her & her Honda Shadow for "first sunrise in America" (tallest peak in the Eastern US seaboard).

It was a little busy, but we still managed to find a quiet spot by ourselves. It was phenomenal. Would love to do the same up Washington one day.

Tallest peak on the Eastern Seaboard, not the Eastern US. Cadillac Mtn is 1,530 ft.

Anyway, looks like Mount Washington is only about an hour or so from our lake rental in Moultonborough. If I can find room to put the Multi in the back of my truck, I’m in. I’m also towing a boat and have a week’s worth of supplies so we’ll see!

More importantly, did y’all bump uglies while atop the ‘Lac? Pretty epic spot to conceive a baby. I did my first one in my shitty 5x10 race trailer atop a rapidly deflating air mattress.

So I take it there will NOT be any "ugly bumping" on Mt. Washington....

This is their official cancellation policy for this event. Sounds like weather cancellations don't mean you're SOL.

Bookings purchased for the Sunrise Drive Yourself are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Should a booking party make the decision to cancel, regardless of the circumstance of the cancellation, no refund will be issued. The Mt. Washington Auto Road is an outdoor, natural attraction, and as such, extreme weather can impact tour offerings. In the event that the tour is canceled due to extreme and unsafe weather conditions, the booking will be rescheduled or refunded.

I'm caging it and would be happy to function as a support vehicle for anyone else that's going, within reason. I'll be leaving southeast NH at 1:30AM and going up 125/16. If anyone going wants me to carry or bring something specific, please let me know. I'll be bringing some basic tools.

Re: Sunrise Ride - Mt. Washington

I gotta be honest. I'm having second thoughts about doing this on the bike. Something about leaving my house at 2:00-2:30 Saturday morning towards the end of summer makes me kinda nervous. Drunk drivers, animals, unpredictable weather, etc. I'm starting to feel a bit apprehensive about taking the bike. It's something I've wanted to do and someday I will. but riding in darkness at that time and this time of year makes me a bit uncomfortable. Especially being as a good deal of my ride will be solo.

    I dunno...

EDIT: Mid 40's with 20MPH gusts around 6:00am today at the summit.

The August sunrise is always a gamble. Next year plan for July and who knows I could always borrow a bike a join you.
