I would have loved to have got some pics, I rode my bike today on some errands it was at least in the upper 20's if not low 30's, sunny roads clear, but if they weren't, I have my studded Karoo T up front now, and still darkside in back with a General Altimax Artic
from my office in Farmington, first, 2 stops in Rochester, then to Dover, then Barrington, then Northwood, back to Rochester, then back to my office, about 70 miles total, for the most part, it was just a boring ride, just because of where I had to go, there was traffic
last 8 miles it turned from bright sunny to a cloud of doom, as I got under it, the snow was rolling to the ground like waves at the ocean crashing on a beach, within a half mile, I was in whiteout or near whiteout conditions I could no longer see fresh tracks even though I could see dim tail lights that looked to be about 300 feet ahead, with the aerodyamics of my wind screen on the V-Strom and my helmet, snow was not landing on my shield, my biggest impediment to vision is that I was wearing a dark smoked shield. I was able to maintain speed limit 35mph, no problem, could have gone faster, but didn't see a need, I was quickly catching up with the tail lights in front of me and leaving the headlights in my rear view mirror behind even quicker, cars were creeping.
after I caught up with the car in front of me, within a ¼ mile it turned into a driveway. I accelerated from the 20mph creep back up to 35 and that was the last I saw of the vehicle behind me I met several oncoming vehicles, I'm sure I'll get comments in the next few days as several were locals that I see regularly in my daily routine. Next, the road turned to gravel, corners got sharper and hills got steeper, both up and down
then as quick as the squall started, it stopped, the cloud was GONE and it was bright sun, just with 2½-3" of virgin snow on my side of the road. I got back to my office, put my bike away
the experience was actually reassuring, it wasn't a big deal, I'm prepared for most conditions that I would ever expect to encounter, and treat it as any other ride, the tire combo I have works, I have good heated gear.
Bring on the Winter !

I think you have the perfect setup for everything
how much did that dark side tire help you in the squall?
10 years ago, my first winter ride was on street tires, it was a warm 45°-50° day and the Kanc was bare, however I could feel wheel spin when I crossed the center line that was covered in sand when I passed cars
the next year, I went to knobbys in the winter, (Pirelli MTR60-corsas) at least they warmed up on cold pavment and I could ride on slushy roads with confidence
Last year, I studded the knobbies, studding made all the difference iun the world, but still, with 1000cc of torque, the rear wheel was easy to spin up and I had to take care rolling off the throttle not to go into an engine braking skid
this year as much difference as the studs made, the car tire made even more difference, its a winter tire, soft and pliable without warm up and heavier that its enuf harder to spin up or skid that I don't have to take the same special care with the throttle, I feel I have more control on slippery roads than I do with my Cherokee or Ranger, even in 4wd mode

I`m impressed. Better you than me as I would have parked it for sure.
Randy.. You have always impressed me with your riding fortitude!
Know what works even better than studded knobbies in the winter snow a four wheel drive F-250.
Another thing you NHer'ites may not have heard of yet SNOW MOBILE it's another great invention and works well in the snow.
I assume you already heard about electricity?????
