why not do it yourself?

I have used these before and its SUPER easy. They say to wear the PVC suit and mask but in a well ventilated area its not bad. You can get 2 LARGE ones and that may do the entire garage (well walls that is) for 1200.

I don't think they make suits that big. . . . .

Check your coverage. The big kits cost $610 each and covers 43 cubic feet. If you spray your walls 4" thick and they are 8' tall that means you can do 19 linear feet of wall. I forget the size of your garage but by the time you do the ceilings, walls, and floor you might be better off paying someone else...

Re: Garage tear down party!!
Doc, just thought of something. One of my biggest wishes was that my compressor could live in a room other than the one I'm working in.
Your 4' crawl space would be PERFECT for a horizontal compressor.
Of course you can't do much about it now, but when the time comes I'd recommend having your electrician put a drop close enough so that once all of the permits are signed off on you can do it little DIY-ing.

Already thought of that. Gonna put the fuel tank for the heater down there too. :D

You're going to kill me for this question but I'm going to ask it anyways:
Shouldn't those footings be 4' deeper? If you are going to have an open crawlspace below the garage the footings should be 4' below grade that finish grade...

Gonna be a 4 foot block fall to bring it up to the backyard/driveway and then the floor. Block is gonna be about 6-8" above grade, driveway is going to be raised a little and there will be a gradual up slope into the garage.
Re: Doc's Garage tear down/ rebuild thread.
Awesome! You should start a "garage build" thread over here by the way:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7
I'm confused by the footings as well. They look to be about 12" deep. I thought they had to be a standard 48" deep (below frost line). Huh. But then again, I'm not a builder by any sense of the word!
Re: Doc's Garage tear down/ rebuild thread.
Also picked up a 45000 btu Reznor, hanging heater. Anyone have a BIG propane tank kicking around?

Code requires that bottom of footing be 48" below grade to make it a legal frost wall.
Also, did they bother to compact any of that soil? Looks to me like they filled and dug where they needed to and patted it down.
Did you pull a permit for this? If so how are they getting away with this?

Yes there is a permit. I'll will ask about your questions as I was not here tp see what they did but I do believe they compacted the soil.

Re: Doc's Garage tear down/ rebuild thread.
Well if there is a permit then I guess the city will be by to put in their $.02 on the 12" deep footers. I just hope they stop by before the blocks go up.
