Hey all,
I need to correctly map the duc. She was poppin and lockin last summer running rich, and I was thinking about getting a Power Commander or a Nemesis. I'd love to hear people's thoughts and if anyone has any experience using either of these, and could help out I've got a case of beer for you.
I had it into Cyclewise last summer and after resetting the throttle bodies, without a PCIII or Nemesis, they gave up... I think. They definitely spent some labor hours trying to figure it out to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions or knows how to map a Duc 998 with a ti Akrapovic (60mm output), I'd love some help. I've definitely seen the PCIII and Nemesis websites with downloads etc, but if you have a preference and why, I'd love to hear it. Especially for someone who's never done this before....
Thanks.
cheers,

You need to talk to Rob at Rob's Dyno.
He's one of the best Duc tuners I have ever met.
What Ted said.
OR get the ultimap chip... $$$$
Or get a PCIII and download a map. That is what I did and the bike ran fine.
Do you have non stock air filters?

The Nemesis is OVERKILL for a street bike. Get a PC3 and have the bike mapped. Most places will cut you a deal on the map and PC3 when bought as a package.
I dunno who to suggest in the VT area, if you want to swing up to Southern Maine Moto Milano in Windham has been tuning EFI Ducs since the 851 hit the market.
Take it to Kyle at Seacoast sport cycle. Best duc tech around and did great jobs on both custom maps he has done for me.

Call Miles at Motofab Sandy...he's got a guy in Middlebury with a Dyno. Ex AMA crew chief or some shit like that. Grab yourself a PCIII, and you'll be set. If you need some help finding one for easy money, let me know. No idea what the used market looks like on ducati.ms, worth checking though.

Thanks all!
I've been scouring for a used PCIII, and they're out there. Just need to pull the trigger. Can't do anything quite yet given the snow on the ground still.
To answer some questions:
Doc, I have the stock air filters in the air runners, but I'd love to get a new airbox with the in box filter...or at least at set at the entry to the airbox. The stock air filters were just atrocious on my 748, and I'm guess these aren't much better.
I'll definitly track down Miles, Rob or Kyle probably sometime this spring. Some of it will depend on trackdays and having a trailer to get the bike around.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I've known Kyle for a pretty long time and just spent 2 days with him bringing my BatBike back from the brink. He is amazing. (Aside from the shite he gives me cus my bike is so dirty.)
He looked at the heads and concluded my computer needs to be flashed. He's sending it out to the guy who trains Rob. (Not a knock on Rob either...)

See Jamie at http://www.fuelmotousa.com for your PCIII he will be the lowest..

Dyno work should be done in better weather I think.

Kyle and a pc3. I had the same issue w/my 998 w/slip-ons. He took care of it
Just ordered up a PCIII from Jamie at fuelmotousa. Should see it in a couple of days. The map he has for an Akrapovic is "close" so I'm likely going to be getting it on a Dyno to get it as close to perfect as I can (yes, I know the enemy of good is perfect...).
After some extensive reading, it originally appeared that a PCIII wouldn't help with any mapping issue below 5000rpm or 20% throttle. My biggest issue is at LOW rpm's with the afterfire and bucking, especially under engine deceleration. Thankfully I've got the DP Racing ECU, which allows the PCIII to adjust mapping throughout the engine range, from idle to redline. It should be here in 2-3 days, and hopefully everything will be worked out or atleast improved by next weekend. Then I can learn from it at the BoMo day on the 9th.
Thanks for all of your suggestions folks. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
Cheers!

The limitation on adjustments below 5k / 20% throttle is a PCIII limitation that has nothing to do with your bike's ECU. The 'street/epa legal' PCIIIs are limited, the 'race' PCIIIs have no such restrictions. If you didn't opt for the 'race' PCIII you're still cooked.
Edit: Actually, I've got to recheck, I think it's the PC 5s that started the street legal vs race edition crap now that I think about it...
Edit #2: Yup, PowerCommander 'EX' models are the limited ones and are 'California legal', aka JUNK.

I don't believe that's what I ordered, but I could be wrong...and therefore fairly friggin grumpy. What is a PC Ex?
I was very clear with Jamie that much of my problem was an afterfire at low speeds, or under engine decel and finally at lower RPM's. He confirmed that with my current ECU, I would have greater adjustibility all the way down to idle.
Guess we'll see.....

After a quick visit to the DynoJet website, I'm safe...Kurlon, you scared the CRAP outta me...but at least i know what a PC Ex is now - junk.

The PC 3/5 'EX' model won't let you adjust low RPM fueling.
If it's not an 'EX' model PC, you're good to go, regardless of what ECU is in your bike. If it IS the 'EX' model, refuse the shipment.
For your bike:
PN 711-411EX = EX aka Street Legal aka JUNK
PN 711-411 = Standard or 'Race' unit, no adjustment limitations
PCIII installed. Easier than expected. Already significantly better under idle with the map that came from FUELMOTOUSA that Jamie "built" for my current intake and output setups. Off to rider her and see how she does in traffic and on the open road. Updates to follow...

Did you "rider her" by Dorset Park around 3:30 pm? I was in the ball field and thought I saw you go by.
