I regret to inform the group I was going with that my passport expired and it takes 2 weeks to get the EDL.I could chance it with my military ID but I would hate to be turned back at the border so I will not be able to attend.
Have fun fellas!

Doc, you WON'T be turned back. Canada doesn't care - they'll let you in with anything. The US may give you a little bit of crap coming back but they can't deny you entry. If you want to go, I'd go.

It really depends on the border guard you get and what mood he's in. They can definitely deny you entry if you don't have the right documents; most border guards have just been looking the other way (although for how much longer they'll keep doing that, who knows). They're definitely beginning to tighten the border.
They can even deny you entry WITH the right documents if something comes up on your record -- a buddy of mine got turned back at a border crossing in Maine because the guard found an unpaid speeding ticket on his record (which he HAD paid and was just recorded incorrectly) which had led to his Maine license being suspended, except he didn't know it because he'd moved out of Maine in the meantime and gotten a new license in Vermont.
At this point, according to the State Department, you need a passport or EDL to cross the border into the US. It's only a matter of time before they reduce/eliminate border guards' individual discretion.

I thought I remembered reading when i got my passport that a Military ID also acts as a passport? Worth a check anyways.

I went a few years ago, bought some gloves, the leather prices were awesome. also nice to see custom bikes that aren't cruisers
I parked at the indoor garage,University of Sherbrooke ? across street from Longeueil Metro Station and took the metro
going up, I took 91, got hassled a little bit getting in to Canada, asked if I had weapons, I said no, than asked again, I said no again, then asked if they searched if they would find weapons, then took me and my GF inside and put us in separate introgation rooms, asked name, if we were carrying weapons again, then left me alone in room for a 20 minutes or so then came back and told me I could be on my way ?
on the way back, I took 89, us customs guy sticks his head in window, sez, comin from the bike show, yep, how was it, bla, bla and on my way in 30 seconds
just went up for day, freeking long day from southern NH compared to when I lived in VT
