Mark (markbvt), David (SVenpointsixtwo) and myself are off on our trip tomorrow morning (along with Mark's friend Paul).

I've got a Nelson-Rigg tank bag and Fieldsheer expander saddle bags and tail bag. They have rain covers, but I don't trust the Fieldsheer ones for a second, so everything is packed in trash bags too. I also felt the need to bungy strap the shit out of the covers (the bags are very well secured with the supplied straps) to keep them from flying away. I also had some room so I strapped a fold up chair onto the back. I'm not sure if I have everything or not, as unlike Mark I've never done a week long trip on the bike, but screw it, I think I've got enough to get by.
It seems like we are bringing a mini-garage, with tool kits, an air compressor, chain tool, chain lube, oil, etc. Hopefully we all make it back in one piece.
8 days, 3,000 miles. I've driven across the country by myself before, but that was in a car, and I slept in hotels. We are going to be camping as much as we possibly can, so that combined with a fairly cramped ride on the SV means I'm going to probably be completely exhausted, but it's totally worth it (David is on an SV too, so we'll feel each other's pain).
See you guys in a week and a half!
Have a blast and enjoy every mile.
Who cares if you get back a day or two late.![]()

I'm ready too dude! You have wayyyy more luggage space than I do, I'll be wearing a camelpack for the last of the stuff that wouldn't fit in the tail pack. Good call on the trash-bagging inside the luggage, I may have to repack some of my stuff tomorrow morning to prepare for rain...
I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something...

I really wish i was going with you! Good luck and stay safe. Take lots of pictures and do shit you would not do at home!
well we made it to catoctin state park (in maryland) in 11.5 hours (484 miles). we had some cold rain for the first 2.5 hours, but we were able to dry out after that. we only had twisties in pennsylvania and maryland, but we've got skyline drive and various other twisty roads tomorrow to make up for it. projected temp for the morning is 43 degrees, with a low of 35, so hopefully we stay warm enough. it's going to be another long day (about 400 miles) but it should be a lot more entertaining. Mark has been taking pictures, so we'll post them when we get back. thanks for the well wishes!
Sweet, ride safe man!
In West Virginia now, camping in the Monongahela National Forest. We rode a little over 400 miles today, most of them twisty. We rode twisties that make me a little ashamed of the App Gap and even T Rd. I'll be posting a full ride report on ADVrider when we get back, and of course I'll post a link here.

Have a safe trip, man ive never seen an SV with so much gear strapped to it thats awesome!
I hope you changed your sprocket man, with my SVS, which has just a tad taller gearing with the stock sprocket compared to the N, I could only cruise at around 80mph indicated without feeling like i was keeping the rpms too high. at 80 im at around 6,000rpm or so which is more than half of its range since it redlines at 11k.
