Parker should have been more patient. A wicked sweet bike just came up on CraigsList: http://burlington.craigslist.org/mcy/2126625242.html
Damn impatient kids
Those are some serious miles. Despite how it looks I have a hard time believing it has 240,000+ miles on it.

I have a hard time believing someone would be able to put 240,000+ miles on one of those without ever feeling the irresistible urge to upgrade.

Hey guys, so I have an update as to where every thing is at!
So I knew I was going to get dicked around by her insurance agency, but I finally got my first offer today, and I promptly laughed at it and told them to go fuck themselves! They offered me 50/50 responsibility liability. I talked to my insurance agent to see if I should lawyer up or what the next step would be. He strongly believes that I was in no way at fault because I had right of way and she had a stop sign. He is going to talk to her insurance company and make sure that to the best of his ability that I don’t have to pay a dime!
If they don’t want to settle with him (and they are being ridiculously stubborn) then he will send it through an arbitration board who he believes based on all of the information will plain and simply find her at fault.
------ ----------- -----------
So my insurance agent is going to appraise my motorcycle on Friday and cut me a check for the bike. It’s looking to be around $1,100-$1,200. Is it worth trying to buy the bike back for 150ish, fixing it up for a few hundred and then trying to sell it on craigslist for $1K? if someone were willing to help me fix the bike I would be more than happy to split the profit from selling the bike. I’m not sure how worth it it would be, but the offer is out there, is anyone interested?

If you buy the bike back for $150 and put let's say $300 into it and sell it for $1000 in the end of it you'll make $550. This also means that you do in fact sell it. The market sucks and you're bike isn't a MUST HAVE bike. Then if someone helps you and you split it 50/50 you're only making $250 at an unknown future date.
it's not so much about the money in my mind, as it is the experience of tearing apart or rebuilding part of a motorcycle. i still know very little about the mechanics of motorcycles and would love to get my hands dirty with a project bike.
In terms of the quality of the bike, my bike is perfect for someone that wants to learn how to ride but can't afford a nice set of wheels. So i do believe that the bike should be sellable over all. ....plus that's an extra $250that can be put towards a new jacket or helmet or gloves!

Do you have the time, space, tools, and ability to rebuild the bike? I also doubt the buy back will be $150. What insurance company is it?
Just because it makes sense to YOU to buy as a first bike doesn't mean it will make sense to anybody else. I honestly think you would have a bit of a hard time selling it, but if you want to do it then go for it.

True. It is VERY dependant on the IF.
I think a running street legal bike is worth $1000 all day long. If he is out $500 and sells it for $1000 while getting some mechanical experience what is the harm?
He can store it here at my house and we can do the work in my shop...

I'll join the chorus of people saying not to bother buying it back. Chances are it'll be a lot more than $150, and regardless, it'll be a pain in the ass, and you'll be saddled with a bike that may not be so easy to unload (keep in mind at that point it will be a salvage, and therefore essentially worthless -- don't expect to get $1000 for it).
I wouldn't bother, but do what you want.

I'd be happy to help too. Whether it's just storage or use of the shop/tools, etc. Figure out what it'll cost for parts, add a little for contingincies, determine what the bike will cost and see if it's worth it to you. We can go from there.

All BS aside, I'll throw in $10 if others do, as long as you record it (doubt I'd be in
VT). Seeing that would be $10 well spent.
It's a 95 Seca II right?
600cc air cooled inline 4...
Punch it out to 65mm bore, 17" rear wheel conversion, and drop as much weight as possible, toss it in to ULSB! 85hp to 90hp easy.![]()
In for $10 shooting practice.
alright gang, i bought back my old seca 2 for $137. i need to know what we would like to do with it....
i can store it at my dad's for the winter, and we can blow it up in the spring/sumer....
Or did anyone want to help me fix it up and sell it off? (Jon and Doc, do either of you want to still fix it with me?)
