I go once in a while. You are buying a vehicle with exactly zero history, which you haven't had an opportunity to test drive. "Deal" depends on your tolerance for risk.

You can start them. For cars, you can drive them forward and backwards in place, but can't drive them around the lot for example.

I've gotten burned on one car there, but have had good luck with 2 other cars and 1 dirt bike.

It looks like the trade-in value is somewhere around $5000 so yes, I think $4000 or maybe even less. Bikes are not really popular at this auction, everyone is there for a car.

I went a few times two years ago; saw a real ugly busa and an older goldwing go for under 2k each. They had an electric car at one that "we tried to start up and it just started smoking, so I guess it's a push-car". Don't recall what that went for. The times I went there were at most one or two bikes, but they are usually the first things auctioned off so you're not there long if that's what you're there to look at.

They're also having a 400+ item private firearms collection auction this coming Thursday.

Bike was first on the block, sounded fine but had a repainted tank and damage to the front fender and upper fairing was broken with a missing chunk. It went for 3900.
