100/90s will work, and if you're running a stock motor are a better choice as they're lighter. Conversely I've run 120/80s front and rear on 1.4" x 12" rims with no ill effects. The heavier tire actually acts as a bit of a damper slowing down the front end a touch, at the cost of acceleration.
I've spoken and emailed with many who say that a 120 on a 140 rim is like trying to squeeze a MTB tire on a road racing bicycle rim....it stands proud and handles messy. Don't get me wrong, I don't want this thing twitchy, but I've come to understand that a proud shoulder on one of these suckers makes it unpredictable. Thoughts??Quote:

It does stand proud, you don't get the same profile you would on a 2.75" rim like it expects and is a raunchy PITA to mount...
But it works quite well. The taller sidewall actually works in your favor, giving you a far better profile than you should get with that narrow rim. Try mounting a 120/70 or lower profile tire and the curve of the treaded area gets exaggerated VERY quickly.

Hard to tell from that shot, but the area that is brown is the usable contact area, where there's no dirt, it's almost vertical. You don't get any warning when you transition over too far, it just lets go.

That's a 120/80R12 on a 1.4" rim. If you look, the profile isn't bad, you can safely use the whole tire, and it's very predictable. Having run both the 'proper' rims and narrow rims, the small gain you get really isn't all that noticeable to me as long as you use a tire with a tall enough (and stiff enough) sidewall.

littl off topic, but can I ask where you got the handguards? Might be a nice thing to have for the multiple low-sides I see in the future...already replacing my levers with foldables from Tbolt.
They are normal Acerbis units, just about any moto shop should be able to get them. "Minicross Rally" is what you're looking for. Available in Black and White they come with bits for mounting on regular steel or aluminum 7/8" bars.

don't listen to darkduc...(he's just kidding...tongue in cheek if you will) There are folk on this forum that know boatloads. Guys like Kurlon and Doc. I've been reading a ton to get mine set up and might be able to answer basic questions. If nothing else this can and should serve as a place where we can all ask questions. Hopefully its a help to anyone.

Yes your cert will be good for 1 Pitbike "rental" (if I ever get another bike to rent) OR If you get a Pit Bike your 1st $50 entrance fee is covered with the Cert. From now until the end of time as long as I am still around and or organizing the event. :DQuote:
