I have always agreed with that principle - as in my previous note they probably offer different "services" and therefore differn tpricing policy is allowed if warrented.
back to tha apples and oranges...
I downloaded the Continental tire Manual and checked out the Continental attack slicks & competition tire specs (based on a DOT carcass)
the Continental attack slicks are"Endurance/Track day tires" (their words) and therfore your earlier comparison against top of the line race full on race Dunlop/ Michelin or Pirelii $423 per set (Diablo SUperbike/SUpercorsa) etc .
So comparing them agains the Pirelii Dragon Track Day Pro tires that sell for $309/set (in 180 rear) is apples to apples

Graham, what Scottie is saying here(I believe) is that the distributors cost is different if they are classified with Pirelli as a "race" or "trackday" vendor. That's true. The selling price is fixed(at least in Pirelli's case, can't speak for the other manufacturers) by Pirelli, which is just to keep a "bidding war" from devaluing the brand.

Yes, I understand that
My other "apples to apples" comment
I want to make sure riders get a clear picture of what to compare to what.
trackside/web pricing

Pirelli Track day Pro slicks 120/180 $309 Endurance Track day

Graham. You're looking at Conti race attack STREET, which to knowledge is the only trackday marketed tire for continental.
We will be selling Conti Race attack COMPETITION. Available in 3 compounds. Soft, medium and endurance.

Derek, I was looking at the Contiraceattackslick that Scottie quoted against Michelin slicks in his pricing comparison on message #21 and Continemal call Endurace race/ Track day tires

I seriously whish the best to BOMO. I am sure that once people try out their conti they will feel more comfortable with them. BOMO's venue is probably going to be a good way for conti to show off their products here is the northeast.

That is incorrect. The ContiRaceAttack slick come in soft, medium and endurance compounds. We will carry soft and medium and they are indeed a direct comparison to any top of the line slick.

How about reading the comma? They are saying that the technology gives high mileage for trackdays and endurance racing. That doesn't mean its not a race compound. It means its a race compound that lasts longer that the competition for trackdays and endurance racing. Do you really think that Continental would market a slick for trackdays and endurance racing only?

Trackday only slicks? just as ridiculous.Originally Posted by FirstDuc-1098
I, for one, am very excited about trying the Contis.
I liked the pirelli feel a lot, but they wore horribly.
I was doing 4 or 5+ track days on a set of Dunlops and the pirellis were trashed after 1 1/2. Awful value.
Very excited to try a tire that is priced better and lasts longer.

From my perspective, the most common complaint about the Pirellis was their comparitively short life. I don't think it's a tire problem. I think it's a setup issue most of the time. They just take a lot of patience to get working just right. We had a lot of people who moved over to Pirelli and did record lap times for them, but inevitably we would be fighting tire wear. People loved the grip, but not the cost. With work, some of our Customers got better and better life out of them.
I personally used Diablo supersofts for a couple of trackdays and they wore down pretty quickly for me (about 250 track miles or so, which isn't that bad for a race tire, but I'm slower than an most racers), although with no tearing or anything. I switched to DCIIIs because I am not running anything quicker than a 1:25 or so at trackdays.
I'll obviously be trying the Continental Competition DOTs in a soft front, medium rear for trackdays. I might even snag an endurance rear just to see how long it lasts me.

Yeah. We can grab a set of those Conti endurance tires
All I remember from that race is Gerard coming in and the conversation went.
Me (with 40 minutes to go) "Anything I should know about?"
Gerard "Tires are fucked"
Me "awesome"
EVERY corner exit was a blast. She was spinning up over 5 and everything. Tons of fun.
If I put Conti's on my bike can I ride across water?
Boston --> San Diego
The slicks and dots are said to be the exact same tires with groves cut. what number 4 said is there's no real difference these days between the performance of the two.
DOT's are made in 120/160, slicks and rains aren't as far as I've read.
180/190s cover slicks, dot's, and rains.
I rode pirrellis and I haven't liked them since they made changes a few years ago. The carcass is too soft and the tire moves around too much, it wasn't a smooth ride compared to the other three manufacturers, and as much as I wanted to run them due to the quality service they were offering I couldn't bring myself to. Though instead I did pay bomo to mount my race tires rather than put up with the free bridgestone or michelin tire service at the track. I forfitted my team bridgestone discounts because I did not want to deal with the new vendor when they switched last year.
Tires I like
Dunlop
Michelin
Bridgestone
Vendors I like
Underground supercycle when they were at the track
Dunlop
Bomo
As far as my opinion on dunlops, top tires and top service, only hurt was their contingency program.
These are the considerations i've made the past few years in my tire choices.
This year I'll be giving conti's a try if their tires perform, are cost effective, and they start making the tires I need for my bikes. I dont' want to run conti on dry days and another manufacturer for wet days.
