I dunno if it is a repost, I hadn't seen it yet:

"Yamaha has again played down persistent reports linking star rider Valentino Rossi with a sensational one-off World Superbike clash against Troy Bayliss.
Ever since Rossi claimed that World Superbikes was the most entertaining form of motorcycle racing at the last race of the MotoGP season in Valencia, the Italian has been linked with a head-to-head against triple WSB champion Bayliss.
Reports in Europe suggest six-times MotoGP world champion Rossi has finalised a deal with Yamaha to race Aussie Bayliss in the second round of the 2009 WSB series in Qatar on March 14.
Rossi would be available with the MotoGP season not kicking off until April 12 in Qatar, though Bayliss would have to make a quick return having only retired at the end of the 2008 WSB campaign.
But a Fiat Yamaha representative said: “Valentino has given a couple of interviews since Valencia where he has spoken of his passion for World Superbikes and how much he enjoys that series. There is no doubt that it would be a very exciting and epic battle, but there is no plan by Yamaha to let Valentino race in World Superbikes.”
After the dull conclusion to the MotoGP campaign in Valencia in late October, Rossi said World Superbikes was far more entertaining.

I can't really figure out why Rossi winning seems a foregone conclusion. We forget, this scenario already happened, only the other way around, and Bayliss won.
Bayliss did a "one off" MotoGP ride at Valencia in '06 to cap off the 990cc era and obliterated the field. Granted, his full-time experience in MotoGP wasn't as successful, but for that trip... he demanded he had "his boys" (crew) from WSBK to help him setup the bike. If you read his accounts talking about his time in MotoGP and WSBK, reading between the lines gives you a real sense that on the 'sedici, he wasn't the top guy and didn't have nearly as good a relationship w/ his crew as was the case in WSBK. The crew has a LOT to do with rider comfort at that level, and getting the last few % out of the bike... I wouldn't doubt that the '06 Valencia GP win was extremely vindicating for Bayliss.
Bayliss would be back on a very familiar bike, Rossi would be on a completely UN familiar bike... I wouldn't count Bayliss out so quickly.
I'd love to see it, and I'm stickin w/ my boy from Taree.

I take nothing from Rossi, he is the best rider of our time, period.
One has to admit, with the age that Bayliss got into road racing... it's pretty scary what he accomplished.
That Valencia win still is the biggest thing that stood out in my mind... I recall hearing about it after the prior round (like a month before Valencia) and I looked at my roommate and said... "he's gonna win the damn thing."
Sure enough, he made good. I don't bet against Bayliss... definitely not on a Superbike.
Bayliss, FTW!
Either could win,
But there will be 20 other real fast guys trying to win as well,
Hell maybe Spies

Spies will be the one to do it, he's my dark horse.what better way for the wsbk rookie to show he wants a gp ride than by beating an 8 time world champ on the same equipment.

Didn't Rossi do a few one off rides on a superbike when he rode for Honda? I'm pretty sure he and Edwards were on the same team for the Suzuka 8 hours? I'm pretty sure Valentino was faster than Edwards on the superbike? i know it's endurance racing but the Japanese take that race seriously!
You actually might be right on this. According to this article Bayliss is not in:
