Or was it the 19th? None the less, Degs & I arrive at the track Saturday morning to find the EZ-Up strewn out halfway across the infield. We manage to get it back together by inserting wrenches into the metal roof support 'tubes' and using LOTSA duct tape (ooops, RACING tape), then use tie-downs to secure it to a trailer he was using at the time...
Just about the time we get it squared away, SNOW! Yip, plenty of it. Switched from rain to snow like *THAT*. The wind from the night before had mellowed out a bit. I believe it was ONLY gusting up to 20MPH by that time...
We tried to seek shelter in the little Blazer thingy he was driving at the time. But Derek's well thought out packing strategy had made it difficult to get a passenger in his vehicle. We managed though, and struggled to keep warm in that thing...
I remember calling Cheryl and asking her to bring along plenty of DRY, WATERPROOF clothing when she made her way over. I can't remember why, but Beth got there before Cheryl. Thankfully Cheryl had helped us out anyway by sending warm jackets/clothes and towels, and a JUG of hot coffee...
Yip, they ran that day. In fact I think it was Degsy's best finish to date at the time!
Anyone remember THAT weekend? Makes me laugh...![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Jay I remember that weekend well for no other reason than doing my rookie race that sturday in the snow and sleet. It was horriffic.
The following weekends I can remember pitting next to you guys and then soon came to be a part of the NESR Family.. not long after that the NESR / DART familes were born and some great intra-team and inter-team commeradere was born!
Its amazing how far we have all come in such a short amount of time.
