So, provided the 29th trackday shakedown goes well for me and the new bike, I am going to take the Penguin school on Friday, 9/1/06. I have to learn how to safety wire and take care of the numbers that are on the bike, make room for some nice red ones. I don't have any spare wheels or rain tires yet, but I have some on the way.. unfortunately they're in Japan and it will be about a month, they say.![]()

You are doing better than half the people racing; you are listening.
Good luck. If you need anything, just ask.

Thanks Jay, I appreciate it. I'll introduce myself when I see ya.
I'll admit, I'm nervous as hell but I am a racer at my core though, so I know it will pass. I race radio controlled cars too, on and off road. While its not as exciting or dangerous (or expensive!), I have gone home with a transponder, and I'm all too familiar with the infamous lap 1, turn 1 stress. I'm gonna take it slow, as far as racing goes. I don't expect to be fast. I honestly am looking to learn and finish - that will be fun for me, at least at first. 30th out of 30 might not be the most fun, but I'll get quicker with time. I've only done 3 track days, so I'm still a complete rook.

Whoops!! Sorry Dan!
Clayton, nah, I've never gone to Excitement, but a few of my buddies have from time to time. Ever hear of the Megadrome? Its a fun little dirt track, but it used to be at another location and HUGE. both dirt and carpet, indoor.

You are starting from a stand still 1/2 way down the front stratight. You are also used to T1 at full speed.
Off the green flag: Don't stress, don't get in the brakes. If you have to; roll off just a touch.
Practice that a few times, stay to the outside, works like a charm.

well you know lap 1 turn 1 is where the most traffic is in any race, thus the stress.. lol I'm used to track day passes still.

neal, my first race it freaked me out before getting into T1 the first time. then i remember what jerry had said about trusting other riders on and off the track. once i made it through there, i realized it wasnt anywheres close to what i thought it was going to be like.Originally posted by SilverDragon

Welcome!
I found myself in your shoes not more than three race weekends ago. Today I find myself approaching the top quicker than I ever imagined. No need to be nervous. You should be more nervous about how much your credit cards going to hurt! A bunch of us sit right at the top of the tunnel heading in (nestreetriders section). If you need a hand with something, stop by and ask around. I'm usually the guy on the very end... red/white/black Suzuki.
Good luck!
Oh and by the way, I have a relative taking the school the same day. If your bike fails inspection for some strange reason stop and see him... he's watched me prep my bikes several times over. He rides an 05' 600RR (silver and black).
Enjoy!
