well, it basically comes down to this. Gary's Street and Trail has offered me a 04 CBR 600RR to use for the rest of the season should i so choose. i would be responsible for track prep and all maintnance. the price of track preping the CBR would be about what it would cost to fix the NSR. i'm not really ready to give up on the NSR just yet, but at the same time i'm really eager to see what i can do on a modern 600. i'm alittle leary about usuing a bike that isn't mine, but Gary assures me i needn't worry. basicaly i'm torn. do i continue plugging away with the NSR? (i'm getting so close with the jetting now) or do i take the ride on the 600? (pretty much forsaking the NSR for the rest of the season) i can't affored to play with both....any thoughts?
Stick with the NSR. Remember, that 600 will eat tires.

Go for it...try new things, you can always go back to the other bike next year if you don't like it.
I just started racing a 600 from a sv 650. The only part that is hard is running in the back of the feild until you get used to the power.
that would definitely be my main concern. yes, you will EAT tires on bikes like that (if you're really competitive I'd guess you'd go through a set every other weekend, maybe every weekend).
frankly the very nature of that class scares me, but maybe that's b/c I'm old and slow... oh and to win you probably have to run 19's-20's to win.

I'd go with the 600 personally. Fuel injection persuades me pretty well.
if I did it again I would go with a LW class bike
take it for what its worth

Racing for me is the most fun when I'm gridded against some guys that are running comparable laptimes to me, that I can chase around the track to dice with and improve my lines.
If it were me, I'd look at my laptimes and the laptimes from this last weekend and pick whatever I thought left the most room for improvement.
Have you really priced out race prepping that 600? I can't imagine it costing anywhere near that much to fix the NSR issues.
I would much rather be on a 250 smoker than my 600. At some point I hope to be able to make the switch.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
That's awfully nice of Gary's Street and Trail!
I wouldn't recommend that thou.

Just from a being competitive standpoint ... NV 600 guys are running 18s right now, the top AMs, 17s, 18s. Top LW classes, 20s, and some 19s .. the rest 22s+.
In order for me to run top 5, I need to be in the 18s, if it was LW class, 23-24s would be fine for some top 5 finishes. Not that you are looking for top of the class finishes, but atleast its not so far out there.

Don't let laptimes mislead you though... The level of competition may be higher in many lightweight classes.
for me the advantages are: lighter weight = less dangerous in many situations, handles better with less investment, uses tires more efficiently, lower complexity in motor, takes up less space at home, smaller trailer, etc.
Ask him if he's got a CRF450 he'd let you use instead.![]()
They should call Production Twins what it really is, Shitty McBikefest. Rules for Participation: If your bike runs lower laptimes than a lawnmower, you are not eligibile for Shitty McBikefest. -Darrell

It's tempting to run the 600, but if the class doesn't suit you, it'll be a bad decision.
I'm a LW class runner and believe me, the competition is there. a 1:22 on an EX500 is a FAST lap, or a 1:20 on an SV. The LW classes are less stressful and more fun, IMHO.
