Sounds like Scott's pass was clean but certainly a complication. What was the cause for the crash; lack of space between Scott and the airfence or the other expert tapping your rear tire?Scott Mullin (expert #24) comes up on my left and turns in in front of me (it would have been clean) but Lorna turned in on her line and kinda shut the door on him (she didn't know he was there) Scott hits the brakes and does a rolling stoppie in front of me to not hit Lorna, she spots him and bails left, I squeeze a little harder on the brake and lean right to try and squeeze by Scott and the Airfence, I think I can make it for a second and then BAM I am on the ground.
I am told by Bob Stone who was behind us and saw the whole thing that Scott was "flying" with another expert as they came up on us Scott went for the pass while the other expert was behind me. I guess he didn't think I would hit the brakes again to avoid the stoppied #24 and tapped my rear tire as I was braking and turning (I thought I had washed the front but I guess that wasn't the case).
Heal up quick.
Fitz

His pass on me WAS clean. The problem was you can't fit 2-3 bikes where only one could go.
I think he thought he could make it to the corner before me and Lorna. I was being gentlemanly and letting Lorna lead.
The cause of the crash...? I (and a few other people that saw it) would have to say it was a misjudgement on Scott's part. But then again IF someone tapped my rear tire that certainly played a part in it. (I don't recall feeling a tap to my rear but that is what people told me.
Again, I hold no grudge.
I avoided hitting anyone, I don't think Lorna hit anyone and I think Scott just endoed and looped it into the airfence. Not sure what happened (or even who it was) to the other expert who may have tapped my rear tire and Bob Stone went through the grass.
That was 5 bikes coming into that new turn 1. All I know is left to our own devices Lorna and I would have made it through fine.
Thanks for all the well wishes. Feeling ok today and as long as I don't try to pick up my son again I should be fine in 4-6 weeks (gonna rule out the surgery when I see an orthopedist)

Ouch... Looking like a long summer (devoid of pushing the mower - the pain and all). It looks similar to mine... I passed on surgery to see how it would heal on its own. I have a reminder (lump) but other than that - it's fine. Plus - I was told I have up to about 5 years or so if I really want the surgery. I actually did do mine mountain biking... After 4 days I was in a spinning class - in the sling. A week later I did 65 miles on my road bike (using lower gears over standing and hammering), and 2 weeks later I was back on the mountain bike - taking it easy... Good luck...

Really sucked to see you sidelined by injury Saturday, but from what I'm hearing, if you had to break something, the clavicle is a a 'good' choice compared to other options? So, um Good Job!Get healed up and come hang out once we've got a proper infield for camping again.
Damn, Doc, really sorry to hear about this!

pin that bone back to its rightful place .... if it starts to heal in a forward (shortened) position you'll be over using the rotators till they eff up on you . then rebreak the clav and start rehabing the whole girdle. 4-6 is best case but think further down the time line .........

sorry for your bad luck dude...
I didn't see it but I would agree that kinda thing shouldn't have happened in practice but on the other hand its still a race day/practicing for racing so you never know what can happen I suppose.

If its any consolation I went up to Loudon yesterday and sat at the fence watching you guys (I think it was the bowl - between the track and the motards practicing in the lot). Did not see the accident - but you all (all of you) have BIG ONES riding in the rain like that and I for 1 was impressed by everyone I saw.
Hope you get better soon.
I agree that you should really consider getting that pinned. Mine wasn't nearly that far off and it was tough to get it to heal fairly straight.
As for the incident, the real boneheaded part is as you said.. trying to go fast or make passes in a new area... when some people are just seeing it for the first time.
And as for the break... as the ER staff told me when I broke my collarbone and my ribs... "that's what they're designed to do". Sacrifice themselves for the protection of more vital parts.
