Time for a Loudon Classic Race Report...
Arrived Thursday afternoon, found some grass by Turn 2 to setup my tent, and spent a leisurely evening unloading, setting up, and hanging out with the Alley and T1A Annex.
Friday - skipped practice, too lazy to swap to my rains, and was hoping my gamble that the weather would break and I'd have a dry try in time for race 7, PTwins was accurate. Turns out that was a good bet, and the track was perfect for my first race. Seeing the new T1 for the first time, I was able to hit a 1:33, within a second of my previous personal best. That netted me a 2nd place in PTwins. My second race was 9, LWSB. I dropped a 1:32.4, but only placed 5th as the novice SV contingent finally figured out that they had power on me... : )
Saturday the weather improved, staying dry for the duration. This gave me the opportunity to try something different, Hammadown's KTM. I got one practice in to feel it out, and turned a 1:33. Ok, so it feels ok... but I had other things to try that morning...
I jumped on a sidecar to play monkey for a 4 lap practice. To show off, I did a perfect superman off the back on the first lap between 10 and 11. I was not expecting the yank that thing had. I went to transition from right to left for 11, took both hands off the front grab rail to go for the one on the left rear of the hack... and Bruce hit the throttle thinking I was already in place. My grab handle went 4" ahead of where I thought it would be, and got further and further away with each wilder and wilder additional failed attempt to grab it were apparently quite hilarious to all of those watching. I ended up Supermanning across the pavement while my driver turned around to pick me back up. I got to do a few more laps before the session ended, and was exhausted at the end. What a freaking workout. And damn fun.
After my sidecar fun, I got to go back to the KTM... First race was race 1, GTL. 7th place, 1:27.202, shit eating grin. I signed up for the motard race also, race 2. So when I came in from race 1, I got to go right to pregrid to go out for my next race. Ceo was standing by at pre-grid with water, but I waved him off as I was raring to go and feelin good. Gridded next to Seth, got an ok launch, and grinned as I entered T1 in the middle of the Am wave. Had fun, until I saw Seth dump in T3 right in front of me. I somehow managed to avoid target fixating on him and continue, pretty much spent the rest of the race trying to chase down DB. Turned a 1:26.2, took 1st.
Last race of the day, LW Sportsman, and a chance to try and race with Seth again. Unfortunately he got a good start, I didn't get on pace, and instead spent my time trying to get around a pesky SV while dealing with traffic. I've never really had to deal with traffic before... weird.
Sunday was chill time, got to watch some great racing and hang out with everyone.
Thank you to the Alley for letting me in with them again, T1A Annex for being a good bunch of guys, and Hammadown for letting me try the KTM.
And for the record, you were all right, I was wrong, the GS was holding me back. I got it.
One more day of racing left for me tomorrow with the vintage crowd. Given how tired I am right now, I'm seriously thinking of just spectating, but we'll see how things go in the morning.
Congrats Josh!

Nice, THe GS is not competitive at Loudon. Homemade racers are generally not either.
Don't underestimate the fact that you're comfy on a motard style bike from your pitbike racing. The change to roadrace ergonimics is NOT an easy one. It's really a lot tougher to control a bike near the limit in that position, especially after you a re accustomed to being upright and seated forward.
