Another interesting article published by the Union Leader this week. I knew the financial figures showed more profitability from the NASCAR point of view but didn't realize just how much....
http://www.theunionleader.com/articl...e-cdb2a2e1cf0bSeventy percent of the activity at NHMS occurs on the road course, but 90 percent of the revenue generated by the Loudon business comes from two NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends -- the Lenox 301 later this month and the Sylvania 300 in September.
Plus something something new world class road racing course...![]()

– A state-of-the-art new road course is part of New Hampshire Motor Speedway's five-year capital improvement plan and speedway officials are actively involved in a feasibility study to build it as soon as possible.

"What is needed is "a separate world class" road racing track, according to Gappens. But, he also will try to incorporate some of the historic features of the existing course into a new track if indeed it is a "go."
One of those might be the sweeping downhill bowl turn. He said if and when building a road course gets "decidedly serious" SMI will seek more input from the AMA and the Sports Car Club of America, as well as other sanctioning bodies"
I hope they listen to our rider reps.
Make it JUST LIKE the current track but bigger and safer.

Fuck the bowl, I crashed there and it hurt my feelings
Great news, I hope this comes through for us!

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
To incorporate the "bowl" for histories sake will compromise the new design. I will stake out the 3.4 mile course for no charge. Expect a corkscrew with my design.
Did anyone not notice where they said the new road course would still be used for parking?
"We have the land and as I said you have to make sure the land is still dual purpose to park cars and have camping during the Cup weekends because we don't want to give up space there," he said. "The road course is a very popular aspect of our business . . . this could be a major event weekend.
I like the current course.
If they make a big one, I really hope they make it so that small bikes can still be run. I have no interest in racing big bikes, and Id hate to have to retire cause the track blows.
Loudon should remain a "tight, technical track"

I hope they keep a similar arrangement from T3 to T10 or they at least retain the spirit of the current course by keeping a tight and technical layout for the new one.
Regardless, this thread delivers!

There are a ton of 'little bikes' that would rock on a larger track. If there was a larger track with proper run off my ass would def look into running a 600, fast SV, something-else than my motard, etc.
I don't like the idea of taking the current Loudon and 'scaling it up'. You can't just take what's there and add 20% to it and expect it to flow/feel the same, it won't.
Boston --> San Diego
Come on, if you want historic, and a technical track, make a bigger version of the old Bryar course, with all appropriate modern saftey updates.
As an aside, years ago, I was in the ticket line ahead of Gary Nixon. Yes, THE Gary Nixon. He overheard my friend and I bench racing, and asked me which track I prefered. I said that I thought it was funny that he would even ask me, because I'm just a wanna-be{relative to him for certain}. I told him that I still miss the old track. With that, he gave me a big knowing smile. The kind that didn't need words for an answer.
I love the fact that it's a small technical "locals" track and would love it to stay similar, with actual runoff.
It sounds like they want to get big road course events, AMA and maybe something like American Grand Am or a similar series (The prototypes just stopped running Lime Rock this year). If that's the case, it may be a bit faster (less technical) of a track?
Looking forward to hearing more.

I believe a track has to be a minimum of 2.2 miles to get F.I.M. certification. Hopefully, the designers will have an evil sense of humor and keep the tradition of Loudon being a technically demanding track. A safe pit in/out design would also be nice.
Seems to be a lot of sanctioning bodies they want to please. It would be nice if the only concession they made for cars was a wider track surface for passing. The ability to change the configuration and run both directions would be a huge plus.
A supermoto and dirt track would also be wicked pissah !!
( hey, I can dream. )
" In the name of the Spedo, the Tach and the Holy Throttle, Amen. "
I believe the idea is to get the track to standards for AMA and CCS. They don't appear to be setting a goal to get MotoGP or Formula 1 to Loudon, though it would certainly be cool if they did! The other concern is do they build it only to current safety requirements, or do they go above and beyond, trying to think ahead to where we might be in 10 years?

I loved riding Loudon just the way it was. But to do this would be way cool! Hope it happens! New frigging pavement to ride on? ooh yea. NJ was a kik in the ass with being so new!
If all else fails, Lean more....
